I will say 170bpm, pretty comfortable there, at the present, 16th notes. I keep working on Canon Rock, and that is 200bpm. And I work at 200bpm, but not comfortable there yet. Maybe in a month. That's pretty fast from my perspective at least for alt-picking - what sort of patterns are you working on at that speed? Pentatonic? 3nps? Sweeps maybe? -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

Ok to help bring the thread back on track as fkalich so rightly pointed out that I'd drifted off point:
Tank, I think Understudy's suggestion is a good one. I find that raising the metronome by 5 bpm for 16ths at whatever speed I'm currently comfortable with will often throw me. Going up in smaller intervals sometimes shows me more clearly where my progress bar actually is. Most recent I went up 4 bpm but couldn't manage 5. Might sound weird but in my case very true. Another possible thing to put your picking under the 'microscope' - if you can video it and watch what your doing - just to see if there's is some thing that you're doing that needs work to iron out.
