My 10 year old daughter gets homework every school day, maths, lengua, conociomento and so on. She's doing long division in maths at the moment.

Last week one of her maths problems was something like:

Paco has 77 marbles and 17 friends how many glass marbles does each friend get if he divides them equally amongst them. So she answered that they would get 4 each with 9 left for Paco.

She got her maths back today and it was marked wrong - her teacher told her that the correct answer was approx 4.5.

Anyone know just how Paco managed to divide 9 glass marbles in to halves?

Harsh marking.

It should've been made clear that decimals could be used. The teacher is obviously concerned with only the mathematical side of things.

Wow, thats weird.
Unless the class was focusing only on math with decimals in them, and the task was in a chapter for decimals? Should have been obviously marked though... :/

They've only just started doing decimals today btw.

Her teacher said she 'should have looked to see what we would be doing next week'.
Yeah right, she's ten and so doesn't really know about a syllabus rolleyes.gif .

Fail.

It's a shame when an adult can own up to a simple mistake.

Some persons think that they know the best, there is nothing to do there smile.gif

happened to me in high school as well, I wrote great paper and everybody who read it thought it was awesome. Everybody except teacher, who gave me fail grade. That was fail for her tho, I know I wrote something very good. Who cares what she thinks anyway, one grade here or there, doesn't make that much difference smile.gif
