I see biggrin.gif

I'm not so sure I would enjoy moving too far north. Just somewhere inbetween. A nice balance so to speak, with some abnormal weather here and there biggrin.gif

Don't move up north, they're a terrible bunch. They've only just discovered electricity, and still bearded men roam the hills destroying the english language. Move down south, we drink shandys.

@Keilnoth: Dont move to NYC tongue.gif Everything in NYC is way overpriced and overall its not a great place to live. I have family that lives up there (Uncle's job made him move) and they dont like it. I have also visited them there, great tourist sites, but not much else

Try somewhere like North Carolina or Virginia. Away from Hurricane area and Tornadoe area, worst storms you get are a few lightning storms here and there, not too hot, not too cold, just nice open country if you go to the right place :]

As for your uncle, I will move where jobs will make me move. smile.gif

I am checking a bit on match.com... err monster.com, I am looking for a job of PHP web analyst / developer and there are some opportunities around NYC + I know a few people there already.

But in fact, I could move anywhere in North America. I just don't really like the southern part because of tornadoes, hurricane, guns and crocodiles. smile.gif

English or British is fine in England, just don't call the Scots, Welsh or Irish 'British'!!!! ohmy.gif
biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

England = Britain.
Great Britain = UK = England+Scotland+Wales+Northern Ireland.

More to the point don't whatever you do call the Scots, Welsh or Irish, English unless you want a kick in the teeth! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Better to be scared than to offend someone tongue.gif

What could technically be considered a low-population area that isnt considered the middle of nowhere?

Ok I somewhat gathered my thoughts a little and these are the things I need to answer before I start the move:

1. Where am I moving to (in England, obviously)
2. What kind of housing? (buy a house, rent an apartment, etc etc)
3. What kind of transportation? (buy a car, public transit, etc)
4. How much money should I earn before I move?
5. How will my montly expenses generally look?
6. Where would the most promising place be to get a job?

Any cracks at these? tongue.gif

Thanks again everybody! This is a big decision in my life and I dont want to jump into anything without being ready

1. Where am I moving to (in England, obviously)
Better some country side than London.

2. What kind of housing? (buy a house, rent an apartment, etc etc)
A studio apartment to rent in London is around £600 + bills which comes to about £700 per month. In other areas should be a bit cheaper.

3. What kind of transportation? (buy a car, public transit, etc)
Public transport for sure. Again I am talking about London as I don't know the situation around. Nobody can get anywhere by car. There are just too many cars that sometimes takes 2 hours to get to a place which would take 20 min by underground. It's also too expensive to have a car.

4. How much money should I earn before I move?
Don't come without £4000. That should keep you going for about 2-3 months until you find something.

5. How will my montly expenses generally look?

My ones are around £1200 per month and that's just normal amount for this environment.

6. Where would the most promising place be to get a job?
Job agencies. Register on each of these websites and upload your CV.

I can't really add anything to what Emir says.
As for property rental prices....
If you look at a map and take London as being the most expensive place in England then Rents will become cheaper the further out you go.

as sensible suggested you could try cambridge but also take a look at oxford.
they are both cheaper than london but catching up fast but ok for the computer programmng world

you could try further afield like Luton or Milton keynes, not the best of towns but still quite active industry wise.

or Manchester or Birmingham both quite vibrant cities, cheaper than london and a lot of southern firms have moved out that way because of the lower costs.

if you do want to be a bit closr to london try kobs in bracknell or slough, a lot of IT/ technology firms are based there.

either way good luck

I'm in a similar situation to you, I currently live in Cardiff, capital of Wales. Next september I have a place in Swansea (also south wales) university to study computer science and it has a good reputation for computer science. I'm not sure if you have already got ur computer science studies under your belt, but if not then some of the best unis are Swansea, Exeter, Aberystwyth, Bristol, Reading and the best is probably Imperial college London but you need ridicously good grades, including top grades in maths, to get in there. Check www.ucas.com if your thinking of studying.

As for jobs in computing, my tutor told me the best programming jobs are around London and Reading but they are in and around all major cities no doubt. Best bets are around London/Reading (most expensive area but plentyful jobs), major cities in North of England or South wales and Bristol area. My tutor landed a programming job in Reading with a salary of £38,000 in her first year after graduating Uni, thats a huge salary for someone so inexperiences although she had to work 60+ hours a week I think, so she then became a teacher haha. Good luck!
