Hey guys! We have a new monster lesson called Modern Blues Licks (Link HERE) which is full of inspiring material. Are you already working on it? I'm on it. biggrin.gif

This make me think that there are many modern blues guitarists like John Mayer, Eric Gales, Nick Johsnton, that I love listening and stealing licks.

Who are your favorites and why?

Hi Gab,

My favourite modern blues player is Matt Schofield.

Simply wonderful

Yes - the jazzy phrasing reminds me of RF somewhat..

Matt does seem to have his own voice which I love and he has a tone to die for.

Robben Ford for me is still the king of the modern blues players.
I dig him because he has a real connection to the historic tradition of "the blues". He played with some of the last of the blues innovators and legends but he also played with George Harrison, Joni Mitchell and Miles Davis.

Here he is with Jimmy Witherspoon in the early 70s. RF is probably 19 or 20 years old.

Here's another from the same time period. Live album recorded at the Roxy in L.A. ...

Robben Ford would get a vote from me too!
Johnny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd are worth checking out too!
Also, one of my favourite younger English guys is Aynsley Lister:-
