Why Do Some Guitars Have The Same Humbucker In Two Seperate Positions?

Apr 17 2010, 12:59 PM	Learning Apprentice Player & Challenge Star Posts: 1.995 Joined: 10-March 08 From: Albany NY USA	I am looking at an Ibanez RG520GP...that has had the stock pickups replaced by DiMarzio X2N's in both the bridge and the neck. Why would you put the same pickup in both positions? What are the advantages of this? I think if I get it, I would change the neck pickup to something a little different for some different tones. Some other times those are just two times the same pickup but it works well in both positions... The diffrent positions have a great impact on how the pickup sounds! As Zakk points out, although it's the same pickup it will show different characteristics in different positions (DiMarzio recommend it as a Bridge unit.)! If you decide to go for it and then swap out the neck pup then I'd recommend replacing with an Evolution Neck for a good output pairing. Just looking at a website review of the X2N and it seems that, if you want a little electronics project, DiMarzio actually say that it was designed with the idea of Coil Tapping it or running it with Series/Parallel switching!!! The bridge pickup will always be sharper and harder, while the neck one will always sound warmer, so there is nothing wrong with using the same pickup twice.
