Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Your first Rock Ballad by Gabriel Leopardi

This is my 2nd attempt. It's better lighting and no obstruction between the camera and the guitar, and yeah the guitar on the first video was out of tune a bit. Cheers Monica and Kris

Hi Ari!

This is a very nice take. I like the fact that you already fixed some of the issues that we have pointed out regarding timing (of course, you still have a few), camera angle, guitar tuning, etc.

The main problem still remains the strumming pattern. I notice that this time you play the last up strum of each chord and that's awesome and is a great step that you have made.
The only issue remains at the beginning of the chords. Gab's play the pattern in this way: 3 down strums, 2 up strums, 3 down and 1 up.

What you do is 4 down strums, 2 up strums, 3 down and 1 up. From the rhythmical point of view, you play the first down strums wrong. The idea is to let the first strum ring longer. To fix this issue in a fast way and play correctly, all you need to do is from the first 4 down strums that you have played in your take, to cut the second down strum which should not exist.

Also, try to play the strumming part with more confidence. Add a little more force to your right hand when you play the chords.

Your right hand doesn't have a very good position. It is too rounded and this will affect your further development because you will not be able to mute the strings in a correct way. Also, keeping the fingers hidden in your palm is a second issue (let them stay in a natural/visible position).
Look at Gab's right hand position and try to get a similar one.

Overall, your take sounds nice and I think you are going in the right direction. You get a 7 from me.

Keep up your great work!

Very cool - your devotion to quick progress is super inspiring and I bet you can already feel the rewards.

There are still some noticeable timing issues here and there, and Monicas tips should help you get closer to original feel.

I also notice you realised 10 seconds in you forgot about the foot.

What I suggest you do, if possible, during the count in, is to groove along with both feet and head and try to imagine how you are going to rock away once the track starts. This might seem like hocus-pocus, but it can give your playing edge like nothing else.

Keep at it mate!

P.S. Got your PM, will get back to you asap!
