hey guys. i need some help. i play with a metrnome. i start out warming up at 80bpm. mayeb a bit slower. then i start my scales at about 90bmp then then i go to 5 bpm faster and play the scale 5 times cleanly. then i go up another 5. is this a good idea? but i tend to be just going up and down up and down with alternite picking. how can i break out of this pattern?

Practicing scales with a metronome is indeed a good idea, the way you do it is ok, but make sure that you are able to play it p.a on 80bpm perfectly before you move on to a higher bpm. Playing clean and clear is much more important then speed, thats something you'll gain with time and hard practice.

If you think playing scales up and down is boring you could check out some of Pavels alternate picking lessons, or muris or juan's or gabriel's etc
Some nice etude makes practicing alternate picking indeed more fun smile.gif

I hope this answers your questions a bit smile.gif
