This depends on the context in which it's used because this two chords / arpeggios can belong to many tonalities. For example it would be D dorian. An audio example would really help.

the first sweeps there's 3 minor arpeggios and they're all 1 whole step apart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXZmAfENbGM
the first sweeps there's 3 minor arpeggios and they're all 1 whole step apart Idk if it was done for the cool effect or they're actually thinking about those things? lately i've been listening to a lot of bands and i question if it's just riffs they make without thoughts of scales or not cause i analyzed some necrophagist riffs and they seem to use diminished and hamonic minor stuff but some notes are still out of key unless they're doing something i haven't heard of yet This post has been edited by enlo22: Jan 11 2015, 12:40 AM |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXZmAfENbGM the first sweeps there's 3 minor arpeggios and they're all 1 whole step apart To me it sounds like the overall tonality is D Harmonic Minor. The chords are either D5, E5, C#5 or some variation on Dm, Em, C#m. If D is the starting point, that gives you a D (root), E (minor2nd) and C#(maj7th). The maj7th interval suggests Harmonic Minor. (bear in mind, I'm in standard tuning here so..) The sweeps themselves are something like Dm up on the 10th and 13th fret of the E string, followed by a diminished shape starting on the 12th fret (you know those typical diminished Yngwie shapes right ? The ones that just stack minor 3rds on top of each other) and then another diminished shape that starts on the 9th. Something like that, anyway. The theory works out with the overall chord tonalities underneath. Btw, they're not all one step apart. The 2nd arpeggio is indeed a whole tone above the Dm arpeggio but then you drop down a minor3rd to the 9th fret (from the 12th fret) to hit the 2nd diminished arpeggio. From there you would move up 1 semitone to resume your Dm arpeggio. This post has been edited by Ben Higgins: Jan 12 2015, 12:08 PM |
