The fine folks north of the border are working on a new rifle for their army. I was struck by how much it looks like something out of a JAMES CAMERON movie? What do you think?

Personally, I"d prefer something simple like a nice Saiga 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun with a big clip, like this smile.gif

Not into guns much, but I do know some history on ak47 and m16.

I know their designs are old but they work fine right? why invest in new weapons that do the same (?) thing?

THe AK47 has a very interesting history being literally ripped from the hands of German infantry (It was the first "Assault Rifle" ever created and was then called the Sturmgewehr 44, by the Germans) and built by a program overseen by a Russian Tank Commander who gave the Russian version it's name. It's now the most widely produced assault rifle on earth. However, many Russian folks seem to think the Germans had nothing to do with it smile.gif

Heckler & Koch G3 was my training weapon when I was doing compulsory military service.

I don't know any other weapon but it never felt heavy and didn't kick back when fired, I was surprised how easy it was when I first fired it. But though maintained good, they were very old and jammed a lot tongue.gif

Right now , they are trying to ban the ar 15. Even though it shoots a tiny round( not even acceptable for deer hunting in many states) and it is proven to only be used in 2 percent of gun crimes. Forces here thinks it looks mean and nasty and are trying to use this as a wedge to take them out of the hands of Law abiding people. Their thoughts are more laws will surely stop the law breakers, but it will, only make felons out of law abiding citizens

A soldier of fortune, cool!! smile.gif You sound like an American almost with all that firearms experience!! smile.gif We take it for granted over hear that folks have lots of guns but I've learned that it's VERY different in Europe. In the Southern United States, it's almost compulsory to own a gun it seems smile.gif

Most folks start using bb guns as children, then switch to airsoft at some point, then they get their first real gun like a .22 calibre or something and then it goes up from there. Some people here take it a bit far and ride around with Gun Racks in their truck full of rifles and such. It's legal as long as you don't conceal them in the car smile.gif

I"ve got a very simple snub nose Taurus .38 Special as my personal gun. I usually go more exotic at the gun range and rent whatever I haven't shot.

Come on Todd, are you going to tell me you have no clue the liberals are trying to ban the AR 15. I know you watch CNN, The Daily show, Bill Mahr, Msnbc, you Know what they talk about all the time. Your talking points are Identical
once you start taking ammo, when will it stop.I know you won't give this a shake, but tell me one falsehood in this video. Congress stopped the ATF so Obama is trying a dictatorial executive order to ban it.The president is the Executive branch, he Executes the laws congress makes ,not oversteps them. You might think Obama is great, but what happens when he sets a precedence and then some one evil gets in, what then

what do you think is going to happen if Obama can just start executive ordering whatever he wants . The executive order was for certain circumstances , not for when congress doesn't give him everything he wants.
The fort hood shooting all of the media jumped on the band wagon about ar 15 s and ran with it , even though it was a hand gun used

In some US states Felons can't vote. That's a good way to exclude deprived areas from having any say, and a good way of keeping criminals as criminals and keeping those areas down.

If such a law passes and you are found guilty of something Obama ignored congress over, do you lose your vote too?

Yams in the backyard? Collecting rain water? Prison for you, then....no more voting.

Didn't this happen under Obama, ultimately his attorney General and his right as a president to pardon anybody at anytime

But lets not use a stupid obscure law and not look at the facts of the ammo ban attempt. The ATF tried to use another obscure law that says pistol rounds can't be armor piercing , and since some have shortened barrels of ARs under 16 inches, the ATF tried to considere it a pistol round , not a rifle and tried to ban it , even though much softer 223 rounds could still penatrate the armor in question. The American people spoke up and let their elected officials know what they wanted, hence they stopped the ATF for the will of the Majority, and this is the problem with what Obama is doing, he is side stepping the will of the majority for :HIS: will

In 11 states felons (who have served all their time) haven't been able to vote for quite awhile. I know, I had a GF who is a felon and she hasn't been able to vote since the 90s. She only ever did probation.

*Actually Holder has coaxed some of the strictest states to relax their felon voting restrictions.

I hope it keeps that way! I think there’s more beneath the surface than simply what Obama et al. profess their reasons to be. You’d think the ATF, an organisation that actually gave weapons to criminals (in operation “Fast and Furious”) would be the last place to listen to regarding taking them away from citizens.

I see denying the vote to felons who have served their time, the same as denying a link between government policy and crime rates. As though, generally speaking, the reason / responsibility is entirely that of the criminal, rather than for example their economic situation, among many, many factors.

Yet all politicians use falling / increasing crime rates to support themselves / oppose the opposition!

Yup, I watch wads of news and still have yet to see anything about banning the ar15. The video you put up is a "slippery slope" style argument which is what is known as a "logical fallacy". Put simply, suggesting potential outcomes derived from existing outcomes without any other support. The good old "WHERE WILL IT END!" argument smile.gif So not much traction there.

But, if you come across any new legislation that is even being proposed in committee to ban the ar15, please do share it smile.gif

If all you are finding is more slippery slope stuff/arguments, then probably not going to give it much credence. sad.gif
