Sounding SPIFF!!!! Well done man smile.gif And yup, sounds like the Neck Pickup he's using. (usually the neck pickup is a tad bassier/bigger which is the first clue, you can eq the bridge pickup that way, but usually just using the neck is better)

The timing could use a bit more time in the woodsheed, but your tone is really NICE!!!!!

Todd

Alright heres my New Take and I noticed one important thing that I have been over looking the whole time after listening Im almost positive he's playing on his neck pick up (I just checked the vid to make sure and its true), that and maybe a combination of alil palm muting So I switched to my neck Pickup and applied alil palm muting and this is what I got

I think Now with alil hard work on cleaning up my playing and avoiding string noise and fix the string buzz on my (B string) this tone should do it

Just got my first Dual Rec (Maverick....2 12'' combo) and I LOVE IT!!

You can achieve this tone with a 6L6 high gain amp (like a Dual Recto) and with high gain pickups too. Add some delay and there you go!

Probably he's using some modeling software. And I think he's trying to emulate Vai's tone too...

But, I've been playing for decades and I absolutely LOVE that Mesa Tube tone (especially the clean, believe it or not!). For someone a little "earlier" on in their personal lifelong "tone quest" I would encourage him/her to explore the settings on what you have already, before spending any $$.

BUT, I also starter on Boss Multi-effects as a youngin', and eventually it "overwhelmed" me and kept me from learning more about tone in a way that made sense to me. Which is why, now, I gravitate towards just the good quality pedals I need and a tube amp. I feel more "in control", I prefer the tone to digital (on stage especially) and I learned WAY more about tone by having a Fender tube amp and a few pedals than I ever did with my 1 million + settings available on my Boss Me-6/50 (yeah, I had an ME-6 when I was about 10, and then an ME-50 age 20 or so...). But, that is just me. Everyone is different.

If you can swim in the vast sea of multi effects without drowning...that's great!! Saves $ (usually) and more tone options!! But if you're like me, try to piece together a pedal board with the effects you NEED and also maybe check out tube amps.

But, judging on the tone you "want".... I bet you CAN get it with the gear you have!! In fact, $5 says that Todd could tweak your dials and get you "Vai", "Batio", "Malamsteen" and "Brian May" tones all on your own gear, and probably in less than 10 mins total. But, Todd KNOWS his digi gear (if you can't tell already!!) biggrin.gif

SOFTWARE TIME!!!!!!

Here is a tone sample I made for ya using OVERLOUD TH1 (My current fav guitar/vst/amp sim). It's somewhat similar to the tone I think you are going for and your doing a great job of it i might add! You can download the TH1 demo for free from www.overloud.com but custom patches work only with a full version, but try before you buy! Same with AMPLITUDE!!

Here is a sample sound
Attached File  OverloudPatchDemo136Todd.mp3 ( 1.55MB ) Number of downloads: 54

http://soundcloud.com/techniqueswithtodd/overloud-patch-demo-136-todd

Here is the custom patch and a screen grab of how it's built. Like ANDREE suggested, it's basically a classic high gain amp along the lines of an an old MESA with a tube overdrive pedal in front of it and some eq and delay. You can use your ME-25 as a soundcard and bypass the effects and use VST/sims in REAPER so you should be set to experiment!! But please ask if you need tips!

oh wow Todd your tone sounds amazing on my Boss Me-25 I've been back n forth emulating the Messa boogie rectro n a couple of the Marshal pre amps Im pretty close Think i just need to either boost my delay n reverb a bit n maybe reduce my drive/dist. just alittle But after comparing the tone to his Id say its pretty much dead on again wanna thank you guys for the help I've actually learned a few things about tone before I had 1 to 3 lead tones that were decent (but , somedays unsatisfied wanting abit more variety) now I have been able to add around 7 lead tones that personally I have found sounded phenom

Thank you everyone smile.gif

I'll post some recordings soon. Scored it for a mere $599 out here in Portland, because some kid wrote "cuss words" on it with sharpie. Already put stickers over that. Also, didn't have the channel select pedal ($40 on ebay to replace) so I'm currently using clean channel only w/pedals, but I also have a Mesa Bottle Rocket tube drive pedal. Can't wait to get the replacement pedal, so I can start toying with the Dual Rec channel! I just always need to switch back to clean for my projects (even EMULATOR) so, I'm staying on clean for now.

You lost me a bit there, when you say "downloading the patch" are you talking about downloading to your computer or using the patch in OVERLOUD? To use custom patches in OVERLOUD you have to buy the plugin. You can use the demo patches free smile.gif

Are you asking if you can upload the OVERLOUD patch in to your BOSS Library editor? If so, sadly no. sad.gif But I think I may be missing what you are saying here. Shoot me a bit more detail and we will work it out smile.gif

PM me as well to make sure I get the update!
Todd
