Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Your First Riff by Gabriel Leopardi

Another try at the pop tune. I paid attention to my right hand position (anchor point and palm muting. Look forward to feedback ;-)

Hi again Gert!

I can say that each take from you shows us new improvements. Your motivation and hard work will take you far.

I like how you played this take. Sounds beautiful, I can hear each note very clear (even on the arpeggiated chords), the timing is great, your picking direction is perfect and also, your upstroke picking looks good.

One single thing is not ok. At 0:28 you played a wrong chord. If you look in the lesson, Gabriel pointed out that in the second half of the strumming section there's a small difference (slow video no 4). From what I see, it's not written in the tab.
Anyway, I made this tab for you. This is how you should play the chords in the end:

Great job with this lesson. You have an 8 from me.

Great attitude! smile.gif

I can see improvement each time you make a video which is great!! For this type of playing/song, your picking technique is working quite well! for big chords that ring out, you don't need to use the mute technique that I showed previously. For this type of thing, a big strum is required and it allows the strings to ring so your not needed that style of mute.

Your playing is good on this! Other than what Monica mentioned, it's tight, it's clean it's got groove and you are clearly enjoying it. Well done!!! Solid 8

Nice!

Overall still very good.

Your chords sound slightly out of tune and my gut feeling is that this could be caused by left hand finger pressure - since this problem most obvious right after you have fretted the chords. A split second later you let go of pressure and the chords sound better.

I once again want to reiterate my point I made in my last video to you about precise left hand finger placement. Because if you fret next to the upper fretwire ( the one towards your picking hand) - then it's not possible to fret the notes out of tune by pushing too hard.
