A Weird Idea I Had Today

I was recording today and I was really disappointed in how weak my muted low E string sounds. After talking to a friend about it we started talking about 7 string guitars... and then it hit me

I'm not a fan of using 7 strings in metal (the B is too much for me), but I wondered how it would sound if I had a guitar with 2 low E strings.

Would that make the muted e string sound chunkier/heavier, or would I need a different note than E to get that sound?

I'm almost tempted to buy a cheap 7 string to try this out

I'm not sure how that will affect your sound, sorry..
But it should sound chunkier as you play 2 strings instead of one..

Let me know how that works, if you try it biggrin.gif

That's an interesting idea - perhaps you could try having a thin low E string gauge where the 7th should be, and standard gauge where the low e string normally is. That way you could still get the feel from the normal e string - and [perhaps]added heavyness when you strike both..!
