So i am looking for a new Distortion/boost pedal, and have my eye on a keeley modded Ds-1...

The thing i want to know is... How much better is it than the normal DS-1?

I don't think DS1 will work with DSL401 properly, at least not on the overdrive channel. DS1 usually works great as a booster with old school marshalls like JCM800. FOr you I recommend SD1 or TS9 keeley mods. if you plan to use it as a booster and nned more drive/compression.
