My friend loves this song showed me the tab for it today. I'm gonna start writing in Drop-C. Glad you liked it.

Not really a fan of drop C, but I can see how some people like it.
That being said, I really hate it when bands tune lower to sound heavier.

Low =/= Heavy

I never tried drop C, could it be done with gauge .10 strings? I think I read somewhere that tuning so low requires quite heavy strings, not sure!

I have done Drop C with Elixer .10's and it sounds fine. When i first used Drop C i was using strings by a brand called Skull and they were .13's and sounded alot worste but that mighta just been quality issues. I think .10's work fine smile.gif

I have never used that tuning, but I would definitely recommend thicker strings for it, otherwise the strings might get very sloppy. At least I would not really be able to play like that, my strings have to be rather tight, I am using 12 sets for my e-flat tuning. But in general I think it is a good thing to experiment a bit with different tunings, specially a dropped tuning might give you completely new ideas since you can't really use your standard way of playing. When I used dropped D for the first time it was really inspiring

Low tunings don't make you heavy of course, a heavy riff will be heavy in any tuning, while a lame riff won't get better if you play it in a deeper tuning

I use this tuning (well now I don't use it because my guitar is in "painting room" laugh.gif) and it's awesome I love it but it's a bit difficult to write songs with, specially when I'm programing midi smile.gif

Totally agree!

I don't use drop C much, but when I do I love playing some Strapping Young Lad-type stuff! I usually tune all my guitars to D standard because I like the sound of D minor & major much more than E minor & major. So since I'm usually in D standard, drop C is never far away. I like changing up tunings every once in a while because it forces me to play different, and gives me new, fresh things to do musically, that would be awkward in a standard tuning.

I use 11-52 gauge for D standard on a 25.5 scale guitar, and 12-54 on a 24 3/4 type guitar. 10s would be too floppy for my taste.
