Not really a fan of drop C, but I can see how some people like it.
That being said, I really hate it when bands tune lower to sound heavier. Low =/= Heavy |

I never tried drop C, could it be done with gauge .10 strings? I think I read somewhere that tuning so low requires quite heavy strings, not sure!

I have never used that tuning, but I would definitely recommend thicker strings for it, otherwise the strings might get very sloppy. At least I would not really be able to play like that, my strings have to be rather tight, I am using 12 sets for my e-flat tuning. But in general I think it is a good thing to experiment a bit with different tunings, specially a dropped tuning might give you completely new ideas since you can't really use your standard way of playing. When I used dropped D for the first time it was really inspiring

Low tunings don't make you heavy of course, a heavy riff will be heavy in any tuning, while a lame riff won't get better if you play it in a deeper tuning
