Sarge, here is Mission 5

Only in vid I see I seem to have pretty huge picking motions. Have to make them minimal to be better

Well fought Soldier!! Your timing is solid and your hand synch is tight!! You are also moving a very brisk pace without losing control which is great to see. Your picking motion is just a pinch more wide than it could be but this is something we can work on as we go. You are moving the entire hand when you pick which is a standard technique and not "wrong", however, it can be improved for the purpose of shredding.

As you dive in to the next Mission, focus entirely on your picking hand. Don't even look at your fret hand. Look at your pick hand. Then plant your palm on the bridge and don't let it move. Focus on not letting it move at all. Play very very slowly and use just your thumb/first finger to move the pick. This will feel very strange. Without letting the palm move, try to add a bit more of the hand muscle in to your picking. This is a very tricky thing to learn but worth doing. I'm trying to get you to be able to pick using minimal effort/wag while keeping your mute.

Don't worry if you have to play crazy slow at first.

As for this one, it's sorted!! You are ready to move on Soldier!! You just...

LEVELED UP!!

P.S. I made this video to show what I'm talking about in terms of muting while striking. Let me know if this makes sense smile.gif

Thank you Todd for making the video it helps me understand what you mean.
I must say when I mute like that with my pinky around the volume knob I find myself killing the volume as I play.
Gonna practice this alot now - mute and keep the mute steady the whole time picking only w thumb/first finger.

You can curl the pinky in so that it doesn't rub against the volume knob if that helps smile.gif The main idea is to try to keep as much of the palm on the bridge without lifting as possible. This is just until your hand has adapted to it. At that point, you may find you lift a bit or shift position as you play, but while learning it, it can help to over emphasis keeping it as still and planted as possible. it will eventually become second nature and you won't have to focus on it at all.

At that point, you will have a very solid mute and will wonder why some folks use a fret wrap smile.gif
