The 2012 Macbook pro is still being used by pros all over the world despite the fact that they are pretty ancient in terms of tech. Tech happens in Dog Years these days. When I went to shift away from the Mac Pro Tower and towards laptop based production, I did a LOT of research and to my shock, folks were buying old 2012 macbook pros and adding wads of ram, a big SSD, new battery and new internal fans. which is what I did. I got an old 2012, put in 16gb of ram, and a terabyte ssd. It cost about one third of what the new starter unit macbook cost. It's the centerpiece of my home studio. If you are thinking about trying a mac in order to run LOGIC X (the only reason to own a mac IMHO) you can get a 2012 for a few hundred bux, add ram and SSD for a few hundred more and have a rig that can keep pace with macbook pros that can't be upgraded and cost thousands more.
