Motiffs, can kinda be explained, but it can't really be taught to any significant degree. The real issue here is not guitar playing, but composing which are two totally different things. Composing is almost purely creative, sure you may use some theory references to help you work out certain things but the song itself comes directly from your creative half.
Building a motiff of which to center on has to be something personal. What are you trying to convey to your listeners? What are you trying to convey to yourself? It could be a simple melodic phrase that makes someone take notice of what you are doing, or it could be elaborate that takes someone on a journey of sound.
Ultimately though as i said its up to you as the player to determine that, we can't crawl in your head and flip the creative switch. We can inspire you, guide you, and make suggestions, but in the end your creativity is the deciding factor.
