Let’s dig in a bit more on NAMM 2022. There was a lot of spiff shiz going down at NAMM, as there always is. Sadly, as mentioned, it is probably going away. After 2 years of covid, vendors found other ways to spend their NAMM money and it was a much smaller show than in years past when it finally returned. Many larger vendors simply just didn’t show up at all. People can’t be bothered to travel, or do things, it seems. Maybe there will be a NAMM app, just a NAMM tik tok channel, and that will be plenty. It’s the direction everything is going. For now, lets review what was actually on offer, from folks that actually did bother to show up.

5.)EASTMAN MAKING SOLID BODY GUITARS

Semi-Hollow body builders Eastman decided to try solid body guitars and brought some to NAMM. I’ve not really heard of these guys before now. Evidently, they make some spiff gear. They showed off the “Juliet”. To me, it looks like yet another Les Paul rip off, but I’m sure it’s got its fans. It’s built from a single piece of Okoume wood. Here is a quick playthrough. If you want a Les Paul, that just sorta looks like a Les Paul, but isn’t really a Les Paul, this may be for you.

6.)MARTIN BUILDS IT”S 2.5 MILLIONTH ACOUSTIC

Very pricey acoustic builder Martin Guitars has made a LOT of guitars of the years. Millions of them in fact. Yet still, they manage to charge top dollar despite this. They are widely considered to be some of the best acoustic guitars out there, as the crazy prices indicate. They brought some of these not so rare, but very expensive, guitars to NAMM for plebs to grease up. The one folks really wanted to grease up is the anniversary model coated in real diamonds. Here is a quick vid about Rich Robinson D28 which made its debut at NAMM.

7.)THE FUTURE OF AMPS IS THE PEDAL BOARD
You may have noticed that there are a LOT of vendors making power amps and full on preamp/amp/fx units that fit on the pedal board. Yup, people are still using pedal boards. So many people in fact, that we are seeing a proliferation of amps (complete with multiple channels, fx, etc.) that are made specifically to fit on a pedal board. Direct Box masters TWO NOTES debuted it’s REVOLT pedals for guitar and bass. These feature an actual 12Ax7 tube and built in cab sim profiles. not to be outdone, BLUE GUITAR showed it’s new AMP X analog programmable pedal board amp. It features an all analog signal patch and effects and it can save presets. It’s trying to be something like a Helix but with a real guitar amp built inside it.

8.)MORE TELE TREMS
Yup. More and more folks are sticking a trem system on their telecaster. To wit, more folks are building them. While traditionalists may see this as heresy, many folks see it as something cool. A company called VEGA TREM will build you a tele clone with a full trem system built in.

9.)PANDEMIC INNOVATION TIME
During the past couple of years, folks have had plenty of time. Some vendors made good use of this time by coming up with some very spiff new stuff. New bits ranged from wireless midi controllers that live in your shoe, to guitars that fold at the neck to allow easier traveling. To wit.

It’s true that many of the bigger players just didn’t show up at NAMM this year. It’s true that NAMM may be going away entirely. However, it’s also true that more people are playing guitar than ever before and it’s a great time to be a guitar player. Rock on.

Eastman are a really decent Chinese company. Their Semi hollows are well regarded, and also their Mandolins and acoustic guitars too.

The boutique acoustics company Bourgeois Guitars who run a small team are or were partnering with Eastman to create a more affordable import line of acoustic guitars.

I've one of their entry level mandolins which cost €800. Plays well and sounds good. Funnily enough I was I a guitar shop in England on Wednesday that stocks them and the acoustics were well made and finished, I was tempted by a small body acoustic if I wasn't flying home I might have bought it.

I'd like to try their 335 type guitars,
