We've all seen touch screen monitors being used in pro and home studios. They do look cool for sure. So how do you build one? Turns out it's much cheaper than you might think. The cost for the touch control can be as little as $100 if you grab a used one like the guy in this video. You can get a new one for 200. Then all you need to do is add a hdtv as the monitor. You can get a smaller 43 inch hdtv for just a few hundred, you can get a huge 50 inch screen for just a bit more. They have really gotten cheap now that 4k TVs have taken over for 1080p units. For this application, (using it as a mixing desk) standard HD works just fine, actually works better. if you get a 4k, and use a mac (you have to for logic) the GPU has to upscale/downscale elements of the UI and it can cause laggy performance. some folks do it with no issues, it all depends on your rig of course. However, for the fact that HD units look great, work great for logic and don't require any upscale/downscale voodoo, lets stick with that for this article.
