Let's share from our experience from giging what songs are well recieved at a pub gig. We'll assume there's an audience from 18 up to 65

I'll share a few:

The Boxer - Tradiotional, good start to get people going

Mary Hopkins The Tavern or if it's called Those were the days - everybody knows this one, even if they don't know the lysics they can nanananana just like in the boxer.

Rolling Stones Jumping Jack Flash - Works every time

Donna Summer Hot Stuff - haha... it's true.

Lynyrd Skynyrd They call me the Breeze - Ladies will dance though I'm sure they don't know the original.

Black Crowes Hard to handle - It rips!

CCR Proud Mary - hmmm... easy to play but it's a tough one that takes energy, can easily get spoiled.

Pink Floyd Brick in the wall - Did it once only, last gig, and it was great! If it works every time, I don't know.

We tried that one from Greese also, Greased Lightning, it was popular but we only did it a couple of times. COuld be worth a shot.

Please add more! From your own experience of pub gigs, no guessing of what should work. biggrin.gif

Some good songs there Kellie! smile.gif

In my experience when I've giged with cover song was that it was the old classic songs that made the crowd nostalgic.
Songs that most people enjoy listening to is in my experience:

Electric:
Jump - Van Halen
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Paradise city, Don't Cry - Guns 'n' Roses
Under The Bridge - RHCP
Living On A Prayer - Bon Jovi
Smoke on The Water - Deep Purple
Proud Mary
Superstition - Stevie Wonder
Life On Mars - David Bowie
Rebel Yell, White Wedding - Billy Idol

Acoustic:
Wonderwall - Oasis
Lucky Man - The Verve
Ring Of Fire - Johnny Cash
Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi
'

There's proboably 1000 more songs that would turn your gig into success smile.gif

I can imagine Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bad Moon Rising would be pretty awesome. And Fortunate Son.
