Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Power Chord Shifting by Ben Higgins

Hi!

Here my take on this lesson. I justed watched the original lesson again and man, does this look easy on you, Ben biggrin.gif My slides look so nervous in comparison. But I guess I just need to practice power chords for some more years biggrin.gif

Cheers

Hi mate,

Good job with this lesson. There are only some very little timing issues here and there, and some more work to do with the faster chord changes starting at 00:35, but this is going on the right track.

As we are working together at Gab's Army, I'd like to recommend you to keep playing this lesson every day (as soon as you get back from vacaction) at least twice every day in order to continue adjusting the trickier parts of this one.

Keep on the hard work.

Hey my friend, this is not bad at all. In terms of timing and chord shifting you're doing a good job.

There's two immediate things I can see that you could improve:

- The change from the F5 chord to the D5 chord. If you can hold onto the F5 chord just a little longer and reduce the pause between them. I know it's quite hard to do because it means you'll have to be quicker about the move from the F5 to the D5 but you can do it!

- Catching unwanted strings. I see that you're fretting the chords the same way as I do in the lesson by using only two fingers. This is useful for quickness, it's easier to move these shapes around than 3 note or 4 note chords. However, because you're only fretting the root + 5th of each chord you have to be more careful with your picking hand. In some cases your pick catches more strings than you need, especially when you're playing the higher chords in the second half from 0:33 onward.

Try to make your strumming motions a bit smaller so they catch only those two notes of the chords.

Overall, strong stuff just needing a couple of tweaks is all smile.gif

Hey there!

Your overall performance is pleasant and doesn't contain any serious mistakes. There is nothig more to add after Gab's and Ben's feedback. Timing is quite nice and it's needs only a little tweaking. Most important at the moment is to be able to avoid any unnecessary strings noise. Remember to use bottom part of your left index finger, to mute all strings below the ones you play. This way even if you ocassinally hit unwanted string with your strumming hand, it will not start to ring.
