Podxt, Dumb question

Im hoping to get a Podxt next month but have a rather noob question. I want to use it plugged into an amp and for recording but using it through an amp confuses me somewhat. Do you have to plug it into a PC while its into an amp? And when it's plugged into an amp will it have the same tone as when plugged directly into a pc? Thanks in advance.
