This was for something on Reddit/r/guitarpro (HERE), but thought it was worth sharing here:

This is the way I create drum midi files that I export to midi and import in Reaper (DAW), then use Superior Drummer 3 etc. make some adjustments and such and end up with things like this (slightly old, but yeah...):

I'm not a drummer (and don't have immediate access to any prog drummer), so this was a great way for me to do it. I know music theory for and can read the sheet music for drums etc., something that has been greatly enhanced by using GP for all those years, by the way.

I think being able to think like a drummer is a HUGE benefit to any guitar player. I learned drums before I learned guitar and it really helped me. Being able to just count time, and keep time, is a huge deal to be honest and something that is required to make progress on any instrument, including guitar. You have a very good sense of rythm and rythmic context. I think it's part of what makes you such a good guitar player.

yeah you're understanding of rhythm and rhythm notation is impressive. Reading music it's the note duration and rests etc that I find hard, but then I don't put the time in to improve!
