Axe-Fx is the bomb. I honestly don't believe it has any competition.

For the initial post, think about a dedicated modelling pre-amp (like the Axe) and a full range amp - such as an Atomic, Roland keyboard amp or Traynor K-4. A full-range amp does not alter the colour of the modellling which will mean models will sound like they're meant to.
