When that Polar Vortex first started a few weeks ago, we were getting warm and moist tropic air via the jet stream coming up from down around Hawaii, A Pineapple Express we call it, and not uncommon. This was moisture that Cali usually would get, sorry Cali. We hit 47 F or 8.3 C and Anchorage made it up to 53 F / 11.7 C I think.We got a bunch of rain and really made a mess of things up here with the snow melting off. But now we are back to normal, 0 F or -17.7 C this morning (Although we should reach the mid 20's today)and very dry. There is actually a red flag warning for fire danger currently due to dry conditions and wind. You can see in these pics that all the snow that was on the lake is gone except for whats left of the snowbanks on either side of my ice road, but those snowbanks are solid and you can walk right on top of them without sinking in , the same goes for the snow in the yard.
