Playing Outside

Hey Muris,

This might be a broad question but I'd like to know if you could give me some pointers on playing outside during a solo. I listen to a lot of Greg Howe and Brett Garsed and those guys can really do it. When I try to play like that I sound just totally out of key. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Bill

Sorry Gentlemen,

Where is it located in the theory board? I'm kind of new here. If you could help me out right here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the help. It's greatly appreciated. I do have one question for Muris though. The sound that I'm looking for is on your Fusion Jam - Intermediate Lesson. Video section #11. I see from the video that you are playing a
min7b5 arpeggio in this section. Is there any other hints or ideas about this type of sound? That is exactly what I'm trying to obtain. I'm glad that I found an example that you actually do here.

Bill

Hi Bill smile.gif
I'm just watching 11# video and I'm afraid there is no min7b5 in there.
Well it MIGHT be min7b5 if you take A as a root but actually C is a root.
And so we have kind a Cmin add6 arpeggio, not in total of course,
there's a note F on high E string which isn't part of this chord tho.

However I think I might have small hint for you wink.gif

Take any Dorian mode,in this lesson we have C Dorian btw.
Then play wider intervals,2 notes per string per example but with string skipping,
from high E to G,then to A,then D then B etc.
Also shift through positions, don't stay only in one box/position.
I think you'll like the result smile.gif

Thanks Muris,

Any other tips for achieving a "fusiony" sound. I'm really into this style of playing but don't know where to go. I really apreciate you taking your time to help me.

Thanks again

You have to understand one thing Bill,
Fusion is indeed complex style to play.
Many players go for it when they find that one style isn't enough for them.
In common way Fusion is usually mix of Rock and Jazz but you can put
many other styles as well, Blues,Country etc.
My point is,explore many different styles and Fusion will come as
natural thing,kind of. smile.gif

I guess I'm looking for more a jazz/rock fusion. It's a very kewl sound. Do you give private web cam lessons?
