I can practice for hours without eyestrain... But I do pause a lot in between (cup of tea, email etc).
Are you long-sighted? It's normal then to straina bit when looking at something close (I.E. Fretboard smile.gif).

Sometimes, mainly if its a bit late at night and I`m tired too, my wife often comments on red eyes if I`ve hit the guitar hard (not literally) the night before.

Ok so that's not the problem..
There's a solution I've heard for computer eyestrain: look at something at a different distance, like a wall, every so often. Eyestrain can be caused by focusing a long time on something fixed (guitar, monitor, tv etc). Try that wink.gif

I have problems with my fretting hand for the first 9 months, I was very worried I may have to stop! But as soon as i altered my routine around to start of slow and end upfast the problems went away.

If your still haveing problems maybe we can look at your routine smile.gif

Yes!

I suffer eyestrain too after more than an hour practising non-stop.

I'm a little bit short sighted, and when I fininsh playing and I raise my head above the frets, I swear I see everything beyond the guitar quite blurry.

Luckily it goes away fast, in a few minutes I'm back to normal, but I guess I should stop every 20 minutes or so, or maybe look away from the fretboard from time to time.

I used to get it pretty bad..

Used to play this game a few years ago called World of warcraft , and sit STARING at the screen for hours on end and my vision would go like back, it was realllly freaky, It always seems like the world was like 20 times bigger, cool, but really annoying, Now I make it so I have to turn around while playing gutiar to look at the computer screen. Never happed since.

Now, The only time I get it is from, just being overtired, or excersising alot, Everything is just blurry and it takes longer to focus, goes away quick though.

It's normal to see blurry at distances after focusing for a long time onto something close, like a book, guitar, etc. It happens to me when reading if I particularly like the book because I get hooked and until I finish the book I won't stop reading biggrin.gif
Anyway the cool thing about guitar is that you don't actually have to look to play biggrin.gif (I remember seeing a tiopic here about the benefits of playing in the dark) It helps when learning but when muscle memory is there you don't need to. Especially when practicing repetitive exercises I read forums and stuff on computer....
So every so often just look away from the guitar, that'll make your eyes less tired smile.gif
