As much as I have practiced I cant tell if I am improving or not. When I play scales some days they go so smoothly and others they are terrible. So how can I tell if there is any improvement. Also how can I learn theory easily like. What goes with what. Do Andrew's lessons show that?

I know I'm improving if I sound better when I improvise, that's pretty much all I care about so.

And for knowing if I improve theory wise, if I read about a concept, then I learn it, so I just improve each time I read about something that has anything to do with theory.

Yeah, this actually helped me out. I recorded one of my "solo"s about a year and a half ago, and revisited a few months ago. Oh boy, it was horrendously horrible.

Getting better is a long-term goal. I really recommend recording yourself and playing it back months later. If you've been working hard, you'll hear the difference immediately.

+1 on recording yourself !

Best way to improve is to practice hard, make practice schedule and do it as consistent as possible. When you record yourself daily and analyze your playing, you will see huge different after some time. For some people it take weeks, for some months, but you will definitely notice whats good and what needs changing in your playing smile.gif

You can upload something and we can see what your weak points are. After some practicing you can upload again and we can compare. I am sure you will see the difference.

Improvement is connected to several things: how much do you practice and play, and how much you are devoting your time to making music and learning music (theory). All this is important, and if you are really devoted, you will notice progress. The more you work - the bigger the progress. Usually the progress comes after some time of hard practicing, and then making a small break to let things settle a bit.
Theory lessons will help you greatly to understand what music is all about! Andrew's theory lessons are a great way to start.

That's something I notice a lot, most of my progress actually comes when I take a week or two when I play less. That sounds kind of weird, but is that normal for people? laugh.gif
