Epiphone With Gibson Pickup?

Does it make a big difference in sound? And I saw there online for like 130$ but that's only 1 humbucker. Is this normal? Isn't it better to buy 2 of them? It won't give you Angus' tone perfectly because the pickups are only one piece of that equation. Big enough difference to be worth $130? Depends on your ears. Pickups are sold individually because there's no reason to pair them up, really. You see certain sets together a lot (EMG 81 and 85, for example) more because people are trying to replicate a particular tone than anything else. I tend to prefer the idea of using different pickups to add to the possible range of tones a guitar can produce. I just wish there was a better way to tell what they're going to sound like. There's an interview out there of Angus somewhere about how in the early days he and Malcom shared one backup guitar...its bridge had one of Angus' pickups and the neck was one of Malcom's. Take a look at the gibson burstbuckers. i have those, get harmonics well, and very sweet sounding. i have the burstbucker 1 and 2 pair, i think they try to be like the PAF pickups. Very clear tone. you might look at the burstbucker 3, have not heard it, but it is supposed to have more high end. My burstbuckers don't have a huge amount of the shred upper band harmonic, but that is not necessarily bad. the harmonics on the treble range below that really ring out. A very clear tone, have not heard a humbucker so clear, except for fender. But it does not sound like a fender. now gabriel has the 490R/498T pair I believe, and that 498T does pickup more of the high band harmonic. but to tell you the truth, I think I like the burstbucker more, even though I hit pinch harmonics a lot. i would expect that the Angus is probably a more like an extreme 498T with more upper band, but not sure. one reason I am not fully enamored with the real high band harmonic range, is that I think it tends to cancel outl the high frequencies below it. that is what it seems to me. but I like it once in awhile, but my 498T has been enough to satisfy me in that regard when I crave that metal trash can scraping sound. edit: when I say "clear sounding" I mean below that high band harmonic range. sure a screamer pickup with that is going to be more clear, but more clear in more of a way that will make you dog head for his cubby hole in the next room.I mean clarity in the range below it. funny thing is, I think I can get as good, or better ringing harmonics with my burstbucker than the 498T, even though the latter has noticeably more of that high hand harmonic range. that is why i say that I think you tend to cancel out the range immediately below that, when a pickup accentuates that high band range. could be wrong, just seems that way based on my observations. Trust me, this is not the pickup that will make you sound like Angus. I would go for some cheaper Seymor Duncan alternatives. If you ask me - you won't notice the difference on your guitar.
