everyone knows that by now. Honestly, Homosexuality is the blackest of the black when it comes to Catholicism bashing. I dont see the big deal of Gaahl being gay. I still hate there music either way haha.

To answer the question of G-foreceluver, Gorgorth has recently split up into 2 bands. There is the Gaahl Gorgorth and the Infernus Gorgorth. Im not sure on the whole detail, but I think Gaahl and Infernus got mad at each other and decided to split the band apart The big question is "who gets to keep the name Gorgorth?". Is it Gaahl or Infernus? So that's where the whole thing about the lawsuit. I'm not sure why they don't go to US that often. I'm sure its the same way that Mayhem doesn't go to US. Too much conservative Christians babbling on about Satanic Rituals happening in US soil. Bunch of BS I say.

ohh, ok. i tought they might of tourtured some guy agian. but your right. people belive in defferent things, so if people get offended, they need to relize that some people are satanic, and to them cristianity is just as weird as satanism is weird to cristians.

And guys, lets stop the fighting about if you like their music or not, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no need to get into arguments

Everyone can state their opinion and that's is perfectly doable without further personal attacks on someone who thinks different.

I was going to post something about the paradoxical negative correlation (oh and this obviously does not include every metalhead, incase you don't know what correlation is smile.gif) between listening to metal music and tolerance... oh well, I did it anyway so whatever.

But look: I don't think it's acceptable to have lyrics like that. Am I allowed to say that? Yeah. A politician in this country (Geert Wilders) has been sued over the movie Fitna (which was against islam). So why him and not Gorgoroth? Is it about art? I don't think this music is about the art. This is a direct insult and threat to people. Look, I don't like Christianity either (I actually resent religion as a whole), but it bugs me to see lyrics like that. You don't have to agree with me, but don't act like I'm some stupid kid who doesn't think stuff through. Saying things like that says more about you than it does about me.

Yes people are entitled to an opinion. As long as it's voiced without stomping a few heads along the way. There's a big difference in saying like you did "I don't think it's acceptable" compared to if you had said; "only idiots can appreciate lyrics like that". Where the latter will come out as rude and a personal attack implying people who like their lyrics must be idiots.

And with what I said above in mind it's this, your reaction, is what we want to avoid people to face. Being called names and things for having an opinion.

With respect for our fellows and minding that writing and talking are two different things that can be understood different no discussion should lead to someone being faced with attacks on ones person.

So keeping it friendly and respecting whom you're discussing with will keep any discussion from going downhill.

The lyrics are fine in my opinion. It's when people take their meaning too seriously when there is a problem. If there weren't any psychos in the world then nobody would complain about lyrics are game content or movie content.

Lyrics and poetry in general tends to be fictional and not fact or opinions. In my world it's very different to write a debate article in a newspaper where you say that you want to kill all <insert random belief system> etc compared to writing it in a lyric.

It may seem incoherent, but I feel that the extreme metal scene is more about image and imagined evil than anything else. Sure, there are a few nutjobs who really believe this stuff, but why would you punish all for the acts of few? Gorgoth, Deicide, Mayhem etc are really small bands and have little or none impact on people and it's really easy to avoid them and their lyrics. A movie on the other hand will always get some attention, especially if it will air in a cinema. If that's the case, then there'll be reviews in newspapers, on tv shows etc and that will have a bigger impact.

I'm rambling, but it's just how I feel about it.

Yeah, good points there Mandos. I agree with you on the second part. Not on the first part.

@ MickeM: it seems to me that both sides have done wrong this discussion, but thanks for blaming me dry.gif

I never did, my point - which appearantly wasn't clear enough - was about how you expressed yourself in a good way and I added an example of a disrespectful expression. Which you never said so I don't see why you should take the blame for that? smile.gif
I hope you can reread and get my drift. If you can't let me know what part(s) you find directed at yourself and I will try to rephrase them into clarity.
PM me about it!

Sorry for my behavior MickeM and SonofDestiny. I apologize for the things I have said.

As far as the imagery and lyrics go, I see Black Metal like I view a horror flick. If people start taking things too seriously, then that's when things go wrong. Censorship is bad. We live in a society where we can voice our opinion on our own rightful way. The movie being banned is wrong too (if the movie only portrait the movie as Islam being about terrorism, then I can see it as being banned). But you know, Black Metal was formed for the reason of anti-norm backgrounds. Those lyrics of anti-christianity where just a voice of a oppressed sub-culture.

I dislike black metal and death metal with a fiery passion. I'd never willingly listen to it.

But saying "if I were in government, I'd ban them' is exactly what's wrong with many western countries today. You shouldn't guard and babysit people from themselves. If you would ban certain things because there is a chance it would infuriate some other group, you'd pretty much have to ban any form of entertainment (and that's not where it stops). You can't create a utopia where everybody is happy and nobody thinks anything 'goes too far'. Societies pretty much need minorities with different views to progress as a whole. That includes black metal bands.

You mentioned a certain controversial politician. Now, he's a perfect example. I disagree with most things he says, but fully respect his right to say it. If we would ban people, bands, entertainment for an opinion they (claim to) hold, what's to stop politicians for banning any voice that might threaten their party later down the line? The difference is a sliding scale, and definitely not a thick wall.

Although I personally do believe sheep heads go too far. But that's, again, my opinion, and I don't feel that strongly about it either.

Ooh right! Haha thanks. I just felt really attacked in this topic, so I didn't recognize the positive feedback. Sorry!! smile.gif

@ Vince: it's okay man! biggrin.gif Haha. I'm just too honest sometimes maybe.

If you think it's a horror flick.. okay. But do you think that Gorgoroth think it's a horror flick? tongue.gif I have my doubts. Aren't these guys known as extremely rightwing? Or was that another band?
