A friend of mine went to buy some pedals this weekend and here's what we tried and bought;
MXR il Torino
Actually I was the one interested in this pedal but when tried I quickly noticed it worked much better with single-coils than humbuckers so I passed, but my tele-freak friend jumped on it
Its pretty much like a clean channel pre-amp, plugged into soundcard and noticed the break only gets obvious when the gain knob is higher than 3 o'clock. The eq ranges are good for a pedal and the break-up (specially the top-end) is subtle but extremely tube like! Those who like something like a boss blues driver setuped for low-gain+more boost should definitly check it.
MXR Phase 90
My friends idea was to get a mooer clone as he didn't want to spend much but I insisted to try the original as the price difference was managable. We tried/compared a few;
Mooer; Sucked
the phase was muddy and not really there. I know there are competitive mooer models out there but this one was terrible.
Phase 90; Not much to say as we all somehow hear it, that one knob work fine for many setups. I only found it a bit too bassy next to the more expensive models.
Phase 45; It definitly has a difference, more obvious when played funky stuff. Keep n mind it only operates with battery
EVH Phase 90; I loved it but its also the most expensive. Not bassy like the original, has a sweeter top-end...basically tuned very nice. I'm a digital guy when it comes to most modulation but this pedal is worth it if one uses phasers frequently.
MXR Analog chorus
I guess I'm a stereo chorus guy (or too used to the boss sound) as though can't say anything bad about it, didn't wow me for whatever reason.
