A friend of mine went to buy some pedals this weekend and here's what we tried and bought;

MXR il Torino

Actually I was the one interested in this pedal but when tried I quickly noticed it worked much better with single-coils than humbuckers so I passed, but my tele-freak friend jumped on it smile.gif Its pretty much like a clean channel pre-amp, plugged into soundcard and noticed the break only gets obvious when the gain knob is higher than 3 o'clock. The eq ranges are good for a pedal and the break-up (specially the top-end) is subtle but extremely tube like! Those who like something like a boss blues driver setuped for low-gain+more boost should definitly check it.

MXR Phase 90

My friends idea was to get a mooer clone as he didn't want to spend much but I insisted to try the original as the price difference was managable. We tried/compared a few;

Mooer; Sucked smile.gif the phase was muddy and not really there. I know there are competitive mooer models out there but this one was terrible.
Phase 90; Not much to say as we all somehow hear it, that one knob work fine for many setups. I only found it a bit too bassy next to the more expensive models.
Phase 45; It definitly has a difference, more obvious when played funky stuff. Keep n mind it only operates with battery smile.gif
EVH Phase 90; I loved it but its also the most expensive. Not bassy like the original, has a sweeter top-end...basically tuned very nice. I'm a digital guy when it comes to most modulation but this pedal is worth it if one uses phasers frequently.

MXR Analog chorus

I guess I'm a stereo chorus guy (or too used to the boss sound) as though can't say anything bad about it, didn't wow me for whatever reason.

The legendary JC120 Stereo Chorus amp is one of the ones modelled i your new Floor Stomp Box smile.gif If you haven't tried it, give it a whirl. It's made by ROLAND so they'd know how to squeeze it on to a chip. It's got the best stereo chorus I've ever heard.

Yeah when tweaking one does notice they spent more time to their own products emulations biggrin.gif The ts9 or Rat sucks but say the bd-2 in it is very nice smile.gif

The jc120 might be the first amp I tried on the gt-1 as I'm a fan of that amp. The Stereo choruses are in the pedals section and with minimal tweaking one gets that "pull me under" intro sound smile.gif

Small update, I got to compare the il torino with the bluesdriver side of a jb-2.

I pretty much nailed the same sound on both of them, il torinos advantage is you can dial in super detailed tone compared to a bd-2 which made it harder for me to tone-match them smile.gif

But the bd-2 is a bit better if drive is seriously increased and I still feel it performs better with humbuckers. On the other hand, one who loves a bd-2 setup low-gained would find the il torino as a step up.

Given the price of that Boss Multi Pedal, Especially used, it makes a LOT of sense even if one were to just use it for chorus/reverb/delay/etc. Is it possible to bypass all the amp/preamp/cab stuff entirelyl and just use the pedal sims ?

The gt-1 right? yeah sure, there are many placing it to their pedalboards for this exact reason. I think our phil66 used the gt-100 like this for a while even though he got a Helix.
