Please excuse the wierdness of this question and my constant activity in the forum, but can someone please tell me why everyone hates poison so much? It seems like everyone I know detests them. I am not saying that I'm a fan, but some of their songs aren't that bad...

Maybe they are like me, and just are dried out on the whole "Hair Metal" thing. All of it became a single entity to me, so most bands i dont like. I by no means hate them or anything, they just do nothing for me, i dont feel anything from it sad.gif

It's probably that they're the last well known Hair Metal band. Everyone vents their animosity on them. But it's the whole Hair Metal movement that they have problems with. This is because when Metal became huge in 1985 producers started creating/signing bands for the purpose of creating FM top 40 pop songs. Maybe it was fun at first but after a while it became pretty lame.

Those songs were basically marketed at listeners who weren't metalheads which alienated the true die-hards.
And that's basically why metal died in the early 90s. The real fans went to the underground music and the commercial fans, when the novelty wore off, started listening to other stuff like grunge.

Approximatly +100 !!!
I went that way myself. This totally put me of from the rock scene. Almost from music all together.

Actually I don't think Poison is that bad. They have some catchy tunes, there is much worse bands from that time.

Exactly. I almost bought no music from 1995 to 2001. Been playing catch up ever since. smile.gif

Ahh, those were the days!! I think it was probably those old glam bands that inspired me (and others no doubt) to take up guitar. Great for the time, but having said that I went to see the CRUE only about a year ago.. Still one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

I like 80's hard rock. I like Poison, Motley Crue, Warrant, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, and many others. I think that "Flesh and blood" is a great album. However I find their last "other bands covers" album so bad.

I think Glam stands for everything metal wasn't about. Poison wasn't bad by all means but they were just in it for the money and the whole cliche of sex drugs and rock n roll.

I agree completely. I love all the bands you mentioned and am a big 80s and 90s metal fan. For an old band Poison still puts on a killer show and packs a full house.I saw them 2 years ago with Cinderella and when Poison took the stage you would have thought they were back in their prime. Good band.

This happens time after time.
Someone does something new and if it becomes popular loads of people try to copy it (at the same time trying to make it more marketable).

It happened with Punk, Glam, Grunge, Nu Metal etc...

Hopefully with the rise of the internet a lot of record companies are going to lose their power of what they can push into the mainstream and people will have access to everything and can go make up their own minds.

Going back to the topic: I think it's fine to dislike Poison if you think they are individually bad, but I think a lot of people think of them as a part of the glam genre. I don't particularly like them but they are a lot better than most stuff in the charts.

(Now, Poison by Alice Cooper is a different matter...)
