If you are looking for a pick with grip, you might look at DAVA picks. They come in all sorts of sizes.

Congrats, SnoCone! I'm new here as well... I use The Dunlop Tortex Sharp picks. I have gotten really use to them and the grip is enjoyable laugh.gif . I did use Dunlop Jazz picks for a while, then I switched to Pickboy. But, for some reason my index finger and thumb kept sweating and I lost the good grip I had using the Pickboy brand. My teacher told me to try the "Sharpies" for a while and I then became addicted. wink.gif

Yes! Your guess is pretty much in the ball park wink.gif ! I feel really comfortable and accurate especially with string skipping (Paul Gilbert Style). I was sort of use to sharp picks anyway, so the transition was very easy. The sharp tip tends dull away quickly rubbing against the strings (when you use the thinner picks). I use the "Blue" Sharpies, they seem durable and light at the same time. It also makes angling the pick a little more "Lenient" so you can get the right taste. I also feel picking dynamics are a tad easier. But, BEWARE of the evil pinch harmonics! It Shouldn't take very long to find a new approach (I actually do most of them on an upstroke now).

Sounds interesting thanks for your comment on that question I'll check these picks out I guess...but the pinch harmonics is a disadvantage if it really needs a new approach I am glad that I am as good as fine with pinching on all strings finally (The low string of course took very long but I made it).... biggrin.gif ...The other day I had tried out a pretty thick plastic pick..damn this was no way !...If it becomes a little bit sweaty it slips out of your fingers like a piece of soap...and I think especially for speed picking it is crucial that your pick doesn't move within your fingers

I have another question guys....Is Jazz III just a name or does the name also tell you something about the characteristics of the pick like size, thickness (or do you also say here gauge I don't know, clear me up!) and size? dry.gif

I use dunlop tortex picks, the uber heavy purple kind (1.14, I think.) Lots of my favorite players use them. But btw, thats not why I use them. I use them because of their grip. Normal plastic picks just don't feel right anymore. smile.gif but if you just go to a music store, theyll have lots of picks. Try them out! And, as I always say, I love guitar picks. Besides books and replacement pickguards, they're the only thing that comes cheap in guitars. mad.gif wink.gif

Hey everyone, its my first post. I joined GMC last night and im loving it.

Heres my question, what picks does everyone here use? and why?

Currently im using jazz 3's and i like them, but there not perfect for me so im still searching for a better one.

Personally I love thick ones. I use a Dunlop 2.0mm pick. It's nice and versatile, and you learn to pick strongly!

I use DAVA master control picks... they are sweet, have a metal tip that doesnt wear out... they take about a week to break in

There are 3 kinds of picks from the Jazz series - Jazz I, Jazz II and Jazz III (You probably knew that already). I haven't played alot with them, but the biggest difference between them that I've noticed is their tips. Jazz 1 is pretty blunt or whatever I should call it, and Jazz III is pretty sharp. I don't believe there is any difference in thickness, but all three of them have almost just the same size.

How does it get easier to do pinch harmonics with a bigger pick? I thought it was the opposite way blink.gif

I use these, the black variant (1.35mm) I use em for all my electric playing, and I,ve had one pick for about a year now smile.gif I like them a bit worn down I guess.

For acoustic I use Dunlop Nylon Picks, 0.60mm.
