well of course thats the problem then... just make sure you stretch your hands and forearms very well before lifting and stretch them before playing guitar and i think youll be fine..

I lift 5 days a week currently and haven't had any issues aside from my hands being too sore afterwards from the bars to hold the neck properly.

You're probably just a little "tensed up", or not use to it. I had the problem once, but it soon left. I lift and I also have one of those guitar "stretch ball" things. It seemed to tire my arm out for a while... But, it's definitely something that should improve over time (or very soon... depends on your case and how easily you recover, etc.) Look, at it as more strength for chords. wink.gif

Also, look a John Petrucci.... He looks like he could be a pro-wrestler or something laugh.gif ... Everyone knows he hasn't slowed down one bit either. wink.gif

When in doubt... ALWAYS stretch your brains out tongue.gif...

If you start to practice intensively and didn't practice before, or push it too hard, muscle configuration changes and you must fine tune guitar muscle memory again.

I don't have problems in that direction, and I work out every other day. Only thing is after workout lifting the guitar gets challenging laugh.gif

I recently started getting serious about playing the guitar, but I've been working out on a schedule for 6 years now. At the beginning when I played guitar I did it before the workout, and held theory breaks the day after when I was all busted up happy.gif Took a couple of weeks then my hands got used to both lifting the dumbells and fretting tongue.gif

Watch out for injuries or minor overstretchings too mate. Your wrists are hard at work. I'm sure you are aware of it, just remember to take care of yourself. I had to learn the hard way. (I never used any doping for working out mind you) But I got ligament damages in my outer elbow joints and that took a long while to recover from. Only because I took breaks too lightly.

Not playing wise guy here smile.gif only sharing bad experience tongue.gif

That's because you overdo it, lol, quite obvious tongue.gif I never had the problem, not even when I was in the army, so I bet you're REALLY overdoing your workout.

I don't have that problem... Maybe its because you lift really heavy... try to work 3 days and have 1 day pause and always workout like that rolleyes.gif

You always need 1 day for body to build after workout, so 3 day in a row is not very clever. You'd get a bad result.

Need some more steeching.
Remember my guitar teacher when I was in school hated to hear that we were doing any sport that is hand based. There was this girl that played very well and that guy wanted to make a note so she was dismissed from gym classes in school biggrin.gif, I didn´t had that problem, he sugested I should try wrestling instead the guitar.

Sounds like a stretching issue to me. I am no expert, but I am probably in the same boat as Muris. I should work out more...

If you are lifting to get big, you will experience a stamina problem when playing guitar. Stretching does not completely solve the problem. If you are doing any bicep or forearm workouts, your playing will suffer...ask George Lynch. There's all kinds of ways to work out, but if you're 'bulking up', plan on having problems playing, even if you only work out twice per week...

I've been lifting 4-5 days per week for 20+ years and playing guitar for over 15. No problems here. Maybe over-doing one or the other?
