Sound/video Problem..., Everything freezes |

I just bought a new computer for about a week ago. A Windows Vista Home Premium (condolences to me...)
Anyway, the computer is running fairly well.. But I have a huge problem: I have to reboot the PC 5-6 times daily because the sound decides to stop working. If I press play in a media player, nothing happens.. Not even the progress bar of the song starts to move. And when I play a video on youtube or a lesson here on GMC, I just get two seconds of soundless video before the image freezes, and the progress bar stops moving. I've tried everything I know of, but the only solution I've come up with is rebooting, which get's pretty annoying when I get forced to do it several times a day. I've asked in several norwegian forums as well, but the best answer I've gotten so far is: "Throw the PC out the window" Anyone out there who have/had similar problems and found a solution? -------------------- GMC is not just a website... Return the computer to where you bought and let them see what the problem is I've thought of that, but I was hoping someone would know something easier -------------------- GMC is not just a website... It's a lifestyle!

To me it sounds like faulty drivers. Have you tried updating the soundcard drivers?
What soundcard do you have btw? Is it a addoncard or is it integrated on the motherboard? Also, have you installed any codec-packs? Hmm, it may be the drivers as Trond suggested, but I suspect faulty hardware too, possibly soundcard failure during decoding or something. Of course it's a long shot because I'm not familiar with your configuration, but something tells me it's so. It is best to take it to service, and ask them to do it straight away. Complain because you just bought it etc..

Hm.. Might have something to do with SRS Audio Sandbox then, as I first expected... A sound improvement program I'm addicted to
But can that also completely freeze video images? I'll remove SRS and see what happens.. If it doesen't help, I'll take it in to service where I bought it. Thanks for the advices ^^ -------------------- GMC is not just a website... It's a lifestyle!

Well try it of course, you got nothing to loose I guess. Can you write down the sound card you are using?

Well try it of course, you got nothing to loose I guess. Can you write down the sound card you are using? Well... That's a extremely good question It's integrated in the motherboard, and the drivers says "Realtek High Definition Audio". I've planned to buy a new card though, so I can plug my guitar in it. Anyway, the problem seemed to be the SRS Audio program I had installed. I removed it this morning, and haven't had a problem today =) -------------------- GMC is not just a website...
