Can you talk alittle about the harmonic minor mode's characteristics, and when you use them? smile.gif

Absolutely, harmonic minor has much more of use
compared with diminished scale per example. wink.gif

There are 3 modes which can be found a lot in todays music,
Phrygian Dominant(5th mode),Dorian #4(4th mode)
and of course 1st mode or pure Harmonic Minor.
There's one more mode with perfect 5th here as well,
on 6th degree and could be labeled as Lydian #2.
Small problem with this mode is that #2 sounds just like
major 3rd so you have like jazzy feel when
moving from 2db to 3rd and you don't have regular major 2nd degree.

When to use them?
When you need that specific sound, that's when. smile.gif
I took only those 3(4) modes cause they are only
with perfect 5th inside which gives us stable root chord.

I see!

Stable rootchord. So you mean augmented etc rootchords, will sound alot like the locrian stuff we talked about?
I need to experiement with this. smile.gif

What about the melodic minor modes, do you know them well aswell?

Just like that,to really use the mode you have to
set chord progression in order to feel the root chord.
And with dim or aug chord as a root that
really ain't easy,or productive. smile.gif

About melodic minor modes,
yes I know them as well but here's what we are going to do. wink.gif
You dive a bit into them and tell me which modes you'd use?

Honestly, I don't know 'em at all. I just wanted a quick characteristic, like "happy, funky, sad" etc tongue.gif
Maybe it's not that easy to describe all these modes, sorry if I am asking foolish questions biggrin.gif

Edit:
Well I know the scale, I just have no feel of it. smile.gif

No problem at all,
you know the scale and the notes,
now just try them all over root chord
and tell me what you feel and think could be useful. smile.gif
