The Pittsburgh Steelers are my favorite football team...and they had a HUGE win yesterday against the New England Patriots. Check out this hit that cornerback Ryan Clark from the Steelers put on receiver Wes Welker from the Patriots!

Wow, that was a nasty hit, it's unbelievable that he got back on his feet so fast. Football can be a pretty violent sport.

Even though I hate the Patriots...I have to give Welker some respect after that one! He is a tough dude to take that hit and get up and walk away! He didn't play again for the rest of the game though!

I'm sure the immense amount of padding helped.

I'm a diehard Steelers fan and saw it live yesterday. I happen to be watching the game with a diehard Pats fan and we both were amazed he got up. Thankfully he wasn't seriously hurt. Even though I'm not sure if he new what his name was afterwards. blink.gif

Being a Steelers fan I love seeing the black and gold knock heads off. I'm a huge Heinz Ward fan just because of his blocking.

Sing it with me now!
Here we go Steelers here we go!

If you have ever played football, you know that the padding definitely does help...but it isn't immense...and doesn't help THAT much!

I saw that one live too...Brutal hit! blink.gif And yes, you do have to give Welker some credit for getting up after that one. Although I still don't think he knows the game is over.. laugh.gif Just glad to see he did get up. Not a Steelers fan but you gotta love smash mouth football and that's what there defense has been about for years.

I'm ready to see you guys hook up with Tennessee in a couple of weeks. Should be a barn burner!

I saw the game. That was more than a vicious hit, it was uncalled for. That's why Clark was penalized. The ball was nowhere near Welker. I love good hits, but not when they're potential career enders, especially when they're unnecessary.

I don't think he even knew the ball was tipped. He was focused on the receiver, not the ball. All he saw was Welker make the turn upfield. Only Clark will ever know the truth though!

That was a gratuitous hit. Those defensive backs have the reaction time of cats. Clark could've and should've checked up. Don't get me wrong, I love hard hitting football. I just don't think that particular hit is worth celebrating, that's all. It would've been a different story if Welker had the ball. wink.gif

That's NFL football, I've seen these kind of shots many times. I've also seen receivers catch balls even after those hits. I played D1a college ball. I was a backup free safety. I really don't think Ryan Clark knew the ball was tipped. He saw the ball coming out of Big Ben's hands (at that moment) he found the receiver. Your coached to get to the ball. He never saw the tip. He was focused on Welker's chest plate. That's what your coached. Just so happens the ball never made it there. Right call on the penalty. But it would play out like that 99 out of 100 givin' the same situation. If the ball wouldn't have been tipped Welker very well could have caught the ball. He's a NFL player also.

Didn't look good is right. Ouch! You just got all jacked up!! Violent game, and then some. Hard to say I agree. But I'm a biased Steelers fan.

Clean hit, not helmet to helmet. This is the reason they've changed the rules. However, sometimes rule changes don't always get the speed of the NFL game. Just glad Wes Welker didn't get hurt seriously. He's a baller and I respect him since I was a smaller player myself.

Yeah, I do like the hard hits also. I think the quarterbacks are sometimes too protected by rules. My concern is that players will soon be so overdeveloped as to be capable of serious damage. They're getting bigger, stronger, and faster. I assume that equipment safety keeps up, but it's hard to say.

When Dan Dierdorf was playing, linemen weighed 240 lbs. Now, that's a small fullback. 300 lb. lineman are running 4.6 fortys. Linebackers weigh 260-270 lbs. How much punishment can a body take? Concussions, blown knees...did you know that the average football career lasts just three years? Have you ever seen Dick Butkus walk?

Football is a punishing sport. I like watching it, but I do wince when I see some hits. I'm 6'3" and weigh 300 lbs. I used to play football too, but my knees gave out just from lifting weights and running fortys. I sometimes wish I would have gravitated to badminton or something. smile.gif

That's why when you reach a certain age you trade in the running forty's for drinking them. laugh.gif

I had knee problems myself. Luckily, I didn't have the talent to make the next step. I was a starting tail back that was beating enough. Luckily, I had beast of a fullback in front of me and my quarterback could throw the ball.
