Any newbie can compose something mate. Im newbie too.
What I would do is, look the B minor scale, and let your rythym guitar friend play his riff for a while. At the same time, just improvise, do some "jam" over that riff using the notes of the B minor scale, until you get a cool melody. It will be something you created instead of someone else and it will be really fun to do also. B minor pentatonic is the simplest approach here but you can extend later if you wish.

Hmm, if tuning on the last 3 strings is A E E from high to low and you have 7 string guitar than this is F# minor right? Correct me if I'm wrong guys, I do feel a little dizzy atm
