Nice one Cosmin!
For me, funk - from the guitar POV - is about setting up and keeping the groove. You're the drummer - it's what the other players need and want from you. It's what the music calls for. This post has been edited by klasaine: Jul 4 2013, 07:22 PM -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

Exactly!! This is one of the main reasons why I always consider teaching funk to my students that want to become well skilled rhythm players and well skilled players in general. In my opinion, a lead guitarist that has a strong grasp on rhythm, is a far better lead player, even if he is not that technical, simply because he will involve the rhythmic knowledge into his phrasing, making things far less predictable. I think Nuno Bettencourt is a great example in this direction (even tho he doesn't quite lack technique as well ) Jimi Hendrix may be the quintessential example of what you're talking about though again, he certainly had some chops. Even if he never played a solo his rhythm playing/concept would have made him famous. This post has been edited by klasaine: Jul 5 2013, 03:56 PM -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

A little rarer. They were sort of in the NY avant/pop scene in the late 70s and 80s. Very aggressive two guitar/horn band.
RHCP are very into these guys - DEFUNKT Chuck Brown's another one. Big influence on Hip Hop. -------------------- - Ken Lasaine
