Cosmin Thanks! Yeah unfortunately I ran out of time and didn't get out the lines that I spent so much time on. There were probably 10-15 different licks and also rhythm parts that never made the video. im thinking about taking a closer look at the licks tgat gave me trouble and practice the crap out of them. I believe that's the kind of licks I imagine myself to play during improv. Btw I've wanted to hear your take for some days but never near a computer long enough to remember. Hopefully soon though... So, all is not lost - correct? Even though you didn't manage to implement them in the video, you actually managed to build up a serious lick database! Practice them and make sure you can implement them in as many musical contexts as possible! We'll hear all the takes together as soon as Taka will take care of the mix But you can find my files here: http://we.tl/rh8vU328o0 |

Here is a preview of my solo I used the RC8X with the new EMG 57-8 in the bridge. I"m recording using only a laptop and the guitar! I'm using a connect cable from the xbox game ROCKMASTER to capture in to the computer and using EZ MIX 2, Metal Gods expansion for the guitar tone.
IT's a very simple, very portable rig. Just the laptop, a guitar, one usb cable and headphones. Nothing else required and I can track, mix, etc. Granted, the headphones are not idea for mixing but I'm very happy with the quality I was using this rig to build some new patches for CHOPTONES and thought I'd try to use it for a collab and it works great. I can take it anywhere and have everything I need to record. Spiff!! https://soundcloud.com/techniqueswithtodd/emg-57-8-bridge-dean-rusty-cooley-rc8x HERE IS THE GUITAR ONLY FILE (starting from zero with silence at first then the solo. Great idea Todd! I like the tone that you've got with that Gear. It's awesome how simple a recording set up can be nowadays. What driver are you using to avoid latency? Asio4all?

I am on a Mac so no extra driver is needed I set the samples very low in LOGIC, that was about it. I didn't get any lag that I could hear which is nice. The input cable is the one that comes with the video game rock master so it's just usb on one side, guitar plug on the other. Very simple USing EZ MIX 2 Guitar Gods for tone. It's just a preset, you don't get to tweak very much, just pick and play Interesting stuff Todd! I'm not an apple user, but I think that this same idea could be applied to pc using asio4all drivers. I'll search for a similar input cable to have a more portable recording system. -------------------- My lessons

I'm sure it would work for PC as well same bits
1.)laptop 2.)Daw (reaper) 3.)guitar plugin (I used ezmix2 but anything would work) 4.)USB to guitar plug cable. Lots of folks make those cables. Behringer makes one too for $35. They are very cheap to buy and allow you to record without any external recording interface/sound card. Also very quiet connection as it's directly digital/usb. ALESIS makes one for about $50 http://alesis.com/guitarlink Todd Interesting stuff Todd! I'm not an apple user, but I think that this same idea could be applied to pc using asio4all drivers. I'll search for a similar input cable to have a more portable recording system.

When do you guys need it by? Todd I love the way the emg 57 looks with the pole pieces Also dig how it sounds. Todd, I'm really liking the mixture of melodic and rhythmic elements in this one. Sounds like you can get some crazy tone out of your setup! I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's gonna fit in really nicely with the rest of the mix. (In progress at the moment ) |
