Hi Gab,
I'm fine, how are you? Thank you I will keep that in mind. I'm not able to find any tabs for the improvisation. Take care! |

Hi Gab, I'm fine, how are you? Thank you I will keep that in mind. I'm not able to find any tabs for the improvisation. Take care! Oh! You are right! That's an improvisation. Maybe you can make some kind of chart to identify when phrases start upbeat and when they start downbeat? -------------------- My lessons

Hi Alex, how are you?
Don't worry about it, it's not a problem. It's quite normal that sometimes we feel a little unmotivated, and in those moments we need to change something or find out what gives us that feeling. For this reason, I think it was very good that you told me about it so that I can help you solve the problem. I would like you to tell me a little bit about what is going through your mind today in terms of music. What music do you listen to, what guitarists excite you, what are your next goals or what would you like to learn to play. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Gab,
I am fine. How are you? Thank you for being so understanding. These guitarists excite me: Mateus Asato Marco Cirillo (A video of him playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVgA5V9U8rQ) Casper Esmann (A video of him playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2cjzKz2jw4) Joe Satriani (I like songs like Always with me Always with you) My goals is a bit vague but to mainly focus on rhythm guitar but also to be able to play lead whenever I feel like it. I also want to improve my ear and recognize chord progressions for example. I know I want to improve my lead playing but not exactly sure what to focus on, maybe you have some idea? I really liked playing Acoustic Solo in C Major. I have some things I want to learn mainly for rhythm guitar. Basically ways to improve a four chord song, if you have some other idea how to improve a four chord song, let me know. Fingerpicking patterns, for example some of these (I made a clip with the ones I like): https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx6-dIy7PhFjR5g2...l4bQsE_hA1TOR04 Ways to improve a boring chord progression, for example this lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Improv...d-progressions/ Licks and melodies in a chord progression: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Play-L...Between-Chords/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Add-Melodies-to-Chords/ Let me know if you have some more questions or if anything is unclear This post has been edited by Alex Arvedahl: Jun 25 2022, 01:39 PM |

Hi Alex, I hope you're well!
Thanks for all the information. It seems that starting my songwriting basics course is the way to go. What do you think? I recommend you start from the beginning because you really need to learn the basics explained in the first 2/3 lessons to get the most benefit from the lessons that follow. Are you in? -------------------- My lessons

Cool. I think we should combine the course with some lead guitar work. It's always helpful to keep working on your technique and rhythm skills. (And your ear, too).

I didn't have any interesting lessons bookmarked but I found these which I really like.
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Knopfler-Style-Ballad/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/TheTastyEtude2/ The knopfler lesson is my favourite out of these two. Do you think they are suitable for me? Or do you have any suggestions? Regarding ear training, should we keep going with the Beatles song or do you have any new idea how to practice? Hi Gab,
I hope you are doing good. I have some questions about the Songwriting basics course. More specifically this lesson https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Buildi...d-Progressions/ 1. Why do you recommend to start with first chord and end with fourth or fifth chord? 2. Should I try to remember the patterns for chords in a scale? (I ii ii IV V vi vii) This post has been edited by Alex Arvedahl: Jul 7 2022, 06:35 AM |

Hello Alex!
This Knopfler lesson is cool! I know that this: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...sciante-lesson/ is older, but it might be a good lesson to play before the Knopler lesson. What do you think about it? As for your ear training, a good tip is to sing along to the notes you play when you play solos and lessons. Also, how about learning songs you like, but not the vocal melodies, but the chords, and playing along with them. If you like the idea, please make a list of the songs you currently like and I can suggest which ones are best to start with. -------------------- My lessons

Sure, The Knopfler lesson is cool but quite hard so starting with that lesson is great. There is just some parts of that lesson which is on the higher frets which I can't reach on my acoustic guitar so we need to transpose it. Or do you have any other idea? Good idea! I will start to sing along with the notes when I play. About the learning songs I like, do you mean learning them by tabs or by ear? Either way I love the idea! I listen mostly to Gospel/Worship songs, do you think that genre works? If so here is a list of songs I like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-ta024B-bY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oWekn0v9Ok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTZj5FJMuMI If you don't think any of them are good to start, please suggest a song Hi Gab, I hope you are doing good. Hey Gab, Please check my questions above, I hope you are doing well. Here is a first take of John Frusciante lesson. Part 1 of the lesson at 90 BPM (original lesson is 100 bpm). It needs more work on on timing before increasing speed and vibrato. I noticed that if I sing the notes over a metronome and then over a backing track, it's easier to play them tightly Thank you for your feedback Hi Alex! Nice to see a new video from you! This first melody is very close. You just have to match the last note, which is on the upbeat and you play it on the downbeat. Other than that, the melody sounds good the last two times you play it in the video. Please keep playing it at this tempo and share a new video with the last notes corrected so I can check it before you continue. Hi Gab, I hope you are doing good. (I ii ii IV V vi vii) In relation to these questions... 1. because it's the best way for beginners to get used to how keys and chord progressions sound. Most songs we usually hear are composed using this trick, so it's important to get used to it before venturing into more advanced variations. 2. yes! This is very important to be able to compose smoothly. First, you can make a table of tonalities. I would give it a try. The first one is also good. The second one has man tricky chords. Also I want to know about the Diminished Chord, how often is that used? Are you talking about the half-diminished that appears in the songwriting lesson? Depends on the style you play. It's used a lot in jazz and soul, but not so much in rock songs. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Gab,
Thank you very very much for these answers. I have really enjoyed practicing the last week. Here is a new take for the John Frusciante Style first melody. Last week 90 BPM, now 100 bpm (Same as original lesson). I think it sounds very close timing wise. edit: I have practiced part 2 and made a take with both Part 1+2 at 100 bpm. I think there is some small timing issues that needs to be fixed. In relation to these questions... 1. because it's the best way for beginners to get used to how keys and chord progressions sound. Most songs we usually hear are composed using this trick, so it's important to get used to it before venturing into more advanced variations. 2. yes! This is very important to be able to compose smoothly. First, you can make a table of tonalities. Like this one: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/b7/e6/49/b7e649f0...ition-music.jpg Thank you! I have made a table now. And I am currently playing around with the chord progressions in this lesson in different keys. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Buildi...d-Progressions/ Edit: I played around more and played I V vi IV in four different keys (A, G, D, C). I saw in another lesson from you that this is the most popular chord progression. I think that the third song is very cool. I would give it a try. The first one is also good. The second one has man tricky chords. I have started to try to figure out the arpeggio in the beginning of the third song. So far I think its really hard when there is singing as well, do you have any tips? Take care of yourself Thank you for your feedback!
