Hi Tom, good stuff!

Before you decide to share it at REC, let me check it and I'll try to anticipate the grading range that you can get. I honestly don't consider grade important in REC, since the more important thing is the feedback there, but if this can make you feel bad we can avoid it.

About the next chords lesson, maybe it's time to go for a more musical lesson at that level, that includes similar chords and strumming but on a musical situation (like Oasis style lesson). This can make your practice more motivating.

Your plan sounds good, keep going!

Assignment #7 again ... (corrected are bold)

1) E and G# or E and A (both are close but do not sound exactly the same???) = M3 or P4
2) A and F# = M6
3) G and D = P5
4) D and C# = M7
5) C and D = M2
6) D and F# = M3
7) E and C# = M6
8) G and F# = M7

9) A and C# = M3
10) B and F#=P5

So I did not find the 4th wrong one. Can you help me with the number?

Hey Gab, in the last week I changed my work on Buckethead lesson a bit. To improve my #1 issue timing I watched all lesson parts again to get the rhythm precisely in my mind and then played the phrases only. I did this very intense only playing a small lick over and over again. At least I know now what it should sound like and I get it right ....sometimes.
Here is a new recording.
https://youtu.be/WAp7w9t3uNw

Also learned 3rd fingerpicking exercise.
#1 https://youtu.be/Fe6LnrS2l80
#2 https://youtu.be/HUkfc-cOl0Q
#3 http://youtu.be/tvVo4p2Eh3M

Tomorrow I will start with Bear's slash chord lesson that we choose.

About Ear Training #7: you said this is my last wrong one

4) D and C# = M7

but I cannot find what is should be? Can you help again? Thanks! Tom.

Hi Tom! It's good to see you working hard and experimenting with different methods of practice. Well done!

I checked your new take on Buckethead lesson and I have to say that your approach to practice is having very notable results in your playing. Your timing is better than the previous version, and the overall thing is better so you should continue working with this method. The finger-picking rhythms are on the right track too, but you need to continue practising to make the notes sound stronger and the whole thing more defined.

About the assignment... ups I'm sorry, this is the wrong one:

6) D and F# = M3

it's a P4 not a 3rd, it was my unconscious error saying that the 4th was wrong... unsure.gif

Hello Gabriel,
some new lesson videos to show my current status. For the new chord/rhythm lesson I will have a recording by next week.

Buckethead
https://youtu.be/WicJpFaIkHs

Fingerpicking (its really bad - but just to show you that I am working hard on it)
https://youtu.be/DRDozd5ema4

All my training schedule is still the same as last weeks with ear training some legato the old barre chord lessons (new video soon) and the three current lessons. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Cheers Tom!

Hi Tom, thanks for this new samples.

Buckethead lesson is on the right track but there is still some work to do to make the phrases sound smoother, avoid unwanted noises and adjust your vibrato and bending technique. Please continue practicing the solo, but focus on small sections, compare your playing with the original take to be sure about timing and to get some inspiration on expression elements.

The fingerpicking is not so bad mate! it's promising, keep working hard!

HI Gab,
Just did the ear training #9 as my recording did not go well today. I only want to show you a new video if there is noticeable progress compared with the last one. But I work on all lessons hard wink.gif

Maybe a bit careless to show results after listening only once. But I feel I slowly start hearing a note. So I played these harmonic intervals like melodic which is easier for me to recognize compare to playing two notes together.

Assignment #9
1 = D-A# = min6
2 = D-F = min3
3 = D-D# = min2
4 = D-A# = min6
5 = D-C = min7
6 = D-E = min2
7 = D-F = min3
8 = D-A# = min6
9 = D-C = min7
10 = D-F = min3

How many are wrong?

Just recorded the Barre Chord lesson again. Since last recording in mid June I have been playing this only a few times daily as you recommended. Also tried to get closer to Bear's sound.

Hi Tom! Good job with the ear training! There is only 1 wrong. Making them sound melodically is the best way to recognize them. Are you doing this with your guitar or with your voice?

The chords lesson is slowly improving. Some things to have in mind:

- Try to relax your hands while you play. The groove will sound smoother.
- Be careful with the tuning of your guitar, it's not completely right on higher frets.
- Your rhythm is not tight yet. Focus on it.

Ok mate, keep on the hard work and let me know if you start to feel that some things need to be updated in your diary routine. wink.gif

Hi Gab,
I do the ear training with the guitar. Maybe I should try to sing too. Will check all again to find the wrong one.

About the chord lesson:
I tune my guitar so often now and especially before recording that I have no idea where the issue is? Maybe I corrupt chords shapes so that there are some minimal bends when I press the strings? Can I use the Guitar Rig Tuner for tuning or is that not OK? I will check again my notes at empty string and 12th fret but usually everything is between 1-2 cent (according to GR5)

Honestly right now I have no idea where to work at this lesson to get it better...the only idea is to play together with the original lesson to improve.
I guess you do not mean the strumming pattern itself but being tight with the beat.
Any suggestions what to do?

Thanks Tom

Hi Tom,

I think that it's very important to start using your voice to recognize the notes. I consider very helpful for guitarists to be able to sing in pitch, it's the proof that your ear is well trained and a great tool for composing, arranging and learning songs.

About the lesson. Yeah, the tuning issue is small and appears on the highest shape that you play (around 12th fret), if there isn't a calibration problem this can be generated by the pressure of your fingers so be careful with it.

The next step to improve this lesson is to be able to play the rhythm tighter, and off course feel more comfortable while playing it. It's ok to keep on playing this one but also start playing along with pop songs that use similar rhythms and chord progressions. You could also do it with GMC lessons, for example my Oasis style lesson is a good one. You need to play many different thing to train the rhythm part of your ear too.

While you play this lesson, are you tapping with your foot to feel the rhythm?

Great! I will try to sing the notes no matter how bad it sounds at the beginning. I do a lot of ear training these days as I understood how important it is for the overall progress. Also spend 5-10 min each day to learn notes on fretboard (1-12 fret, 1 note per day) and I will start to sing them too.
Does it make sense to use - think its called solfeggio (do-re-mi-la...) ?

I to not tap with my feet and it seems I loose the rhythm in my head when I fully concentrate on chord shape changes. My chair it too high to tap ...its something like this
http://www.thomann.de/de/thomann_bar_stool_passion.htm
It seems I better change it?

Do you want me to add the Oasis lesson or just use the backing and make an own chord progression?

About tuning: its NOT the guitar - my fingers are the issue. If I play the Am7/B7 shapes at higher frets with fingers slowly placed and right pressure it sounds right. Another thing to work at.

You are always a great help!!!

Hi mate!

Great plan for ear training and singing practice. Everything you can do will help. I don't consider necessary the solfeggio but it's always nice to use the old school music methods to enjoy the music language. If you have time, do it, it's beautiful. But it won't make your practice better or worse.

About where you sit, yes, I think that it's better if you can tap with your foot while you play. If you need to change the chair or maybe move it to a place where you can reach a surface, go for it.

Both ideas for Oasis lesson are ok for me. Learning the original lesson can help, building your own arrangement is also a good idea.

Hi Gab - so I would have the following lessons now.

Rhythm and Chords
Oasis
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Oasis-Style/
Barre
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginn...g-Barre-Chords/
Slash Chords
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginn...Slash-Chords-3/

As I am familiar with all chord shapes its "only" a matter of smooth changes and tight rhythm. I like the idea of many different songs and hope that helps to push my progress.

#4 is Buckethead Style and #5 Fingerpicking. With the fingerpicking I find myself loosing concentrations. maybe its because I miss the link how to use the patterns practically. lets see how far I will come here with. For both I will record over the next weekend.

Hi Gab - I found the wrong one - hopefully.
#4 is not min6 but min3.

Assignment #9
1 = D-A# = min6
2 = D-F = min3
3 = D-D# = min2
4 = D-F = min3
5 = D-C = min7
6 = D-D# = min2
7 = D-F = min3
8 = D-A# = min6
9 = D-C = min7
10 = D-F = min3

Hi Gab,
here comes a new take of the Buckethead lesson. Focus was on phrasing and timing in the solo part which is quite challenging at this tempo. So it seems every little improvement is hard earned.
