hey guys, this is a song I composed and played. I used an sm7b for the vocals and I really liked the way it mixed. The lyrics are in the description. I'm happy with the results and felt like the hard work was worth it smile.gif
feel free to give me feedback (good/bad) thanks smile.gif

liked! very cool as you composed everything in this song every element I heard was solid smile.gif

My only negative feedback would be about the mix process though I'm not sure of the specific problem, I felt it needed overall more clarity and maybe dynamics.

Either you used the limiter too much at the final mastering stage (and youtube algo's really makes things worse on loud mastered stuff, unless you don't go to a professional company) or there is a phase problem with the powerchord guitar tracks as they seem muffled. If you mic.ed those guitars instead of using impulses (though this can happen with impulses too) google "phase correction plug-in" and see if it helps.

thanks for listening man, yeah it could be the limiter! I thought that phase issues are only when you use more than one mic?

Ah cool, I was just throwing ideas as I wasn't 100% how/what was done. Just advice for future projects, use something called a clipper first (as much needed but careful as it shouldn't distort) then a limiter (-2db then is more then enough). Keep the good work! smile.gif

Hi mate! Great work! The song is really aggressive. Your playing and singing are top level! I also think that the overall mix could sound more organic.

How are you recording your guitars? Have you tried using the Sm7 to mic your cab too?

Very cool and on par, production wise with pretty much anything else in the genre imho. However, I do find the guitars a bit "dark" which is a failing of the sm7b. It needs a LOT of input gain and doesn't have a lot of "sparkle" to it. So when micing guitars with it, folks will add a mic that does have some sparkle, any condenser mic will do (just use a low cut on the mic to prevent too much bass) or a mic like a 609
https://en-us.sennheiser.com/guitar-microph...ve-e-609-silver

many folks will just split the difference and stick an SM57 directly in the speaker cone and call it a day. smile.gif

This assumes you used that mic for the guitars of course smile.gif

In terms of composition, I like it quite a bit and it has a bit of a periphery feel to it which is cool. smile.gif
