I can't tell you how thrilled I am with this pedal that was hand built by one of our very own GMCers!!! I will keep his name secret until he wants to share. I think he should make these available to people to buy! I actually like the tone better than my PRO TONE MISHA BULB over drive. It responds like a tube amp. Light touch is met by a very tubey sound, dig and it gets more Marshall sounding. Most responsive ovedrive Ive ever tried.

If the builder would like to reveal himself, I'd like to have this thread be about how he built the pedal!!

EDIT: The Builder is not shy!!! You can go and get your own KLONE!!! Here is the web site.

brianwurster.com

Just wanted to make sure it was ok with him before he gets a FLOOD of orders :

It's no secret smile.gif I have to admit, the design isn't mine (obviously) and I just found the killer centaur art on the Internet. When I get home I'll see if I can find some background on how it was designed and constructed to post. I just like building stuff and wanted to show Todd some appreciation for his effort at GMC.

Want to hear a demo in person? I have enough leftover to make one more smile.gif Gabriel in Argentina, Todd in Georgia and Mertay in Turkey, my creations would span the globe, WORLD DOMINATION!!

Here are a few of the details of what I put together. First, the layout was my standard stripboard, using this design Klon Centaur Silver Edition.

I'm going to guess what Todd refers to as the secret sauce is probably the germanium diodes. The design called for a Russian D9E, but I used 1N34's as the original creator eventually revealed were used in the original. Here's some background on silicon vs germanium diodes.

Next, I laid out the enclosure in Sketchup.

I almost always do this now, because it's quick and I make sure everything will fit before drilling. Below is the drilled enclosure after I applied the laser waterslide decal. A quick clear coat and assembly and it was ready to rock.

Here's a few more quick shots of it before mailing it off:

HUGE thanks for that!! I'm going to ask that the breakdown of the guts of the pedal be Enshrined in our WIKI for all time!!! I created a very quick and dirty vid using just the mic on the camera so I could get a video up quickly to share. I'm working on a vid using a real mic on the cab so you can hear how much detail is going on with this pedal. It's just freaking AMAZING imho!!

Listened the camera mic. demo 2-3 times and while still waiting for mic.ed amp (or to processor) demos I'm not sure about treating it as an amp-in -the-box solution.

My experience is limited to ehx version of klon. The friend who had it liked cranking it, and although the drive is nice the voicing of the original design didn't complement it. Sort of the ds1 approach to me, lovely classic for a driven amp but by its own (on clean channel) not so much.

What I liked about it was when treating it like an always on eq, very mild drive and adjusting the tone to complement the guitars natural character. Even that cheap ehx pedal made a nice difference (but needed adjustment again with every other guitar). Yeah this is I guess the traditional way like every blues guy uses the klon but it also worked for me while demoing it and I bet in this processor age it will be a nice addition to anybodys board.

This one does seem to sound more amp like from Todd's demo, which is why it made me more curious how it would sound with lesser gain for sweet tones. Aside as a booster, if possible a mild drive demo might also be good.

Will have a full miced demo up soon smile.gif I'm running it as a preamp in to my micro mojo diamond head. It responds in a very tube/amp like way. Which is nice smile.gif

I'm really looking forward to the mic'ed demo too, now that you've spent some time with it.

Thanks for making such a killer pedal!!! I'm guessing you are going to start getting requests to build them pretty soon from strangers all over the interwebs!!!!
