Full Track "high Risk With A Vengeance" With Ben Higgins Options

Here is the full track. It all started way back in 2011 right here on GMC as a collab by BEN HIGGINS. I've been pestering him ever since to do a song version with he and I going back and forth We finally did it!! On a very frustrating note, FACEBOOK KILLS AUDIO/VIDEO QUALITY!!! I uploaded directly to facebook to share this and it DESTROYED The audio quality and the video quality. Have you guys had a similar experience on facebook? seems to have gotten worse over time instead of better!

The first thing I noticed was FB was much louder than YT. If you check youtube nerd stat its normalized 9.2db. Also, FB video quality goes max 360p while youtube 720p.

edit; I also downloaded both audio files (with shady online downloaders). The FB audio is mono (or force mono) also seems a bit more clipped than youtube audio.

But you do seem to be guilty of mastering too loud

The same HD file was uploaded to youtube and facebook. Facebook DETROYED the quality of audio and video. It's just AWFUL imho. They took a stereo mix, turned it MONO and then downrezed the clip to 360p from 720p!!!
Thanks for confirming Mertay. It's just tragic what they do to videos on FB. Whats worse, they won't let you embed youtube clips that play automatically. Folks have to leave the site and go to youtube which most folks don't want to do. So you have to upload direct and let them ruin your clip.

The master level was the same as I got from the final source from Ben. It seemed fine on youtube. Then crushed on FB.

Thanks!!! I really wanted to do a track that was full on blitz shred the entire time. Ben was certainly game for it and his playing is superb!! I went full out on this which isn't something I do often. But it was fun for sure!! Ben wrote this backing in 2011, I've been nagging him ever since to do a duet!!

I really don't know much on video/web but seems you uploaded to your personal account on facebook(?), might be worth uploading to a business account linked to your personal just a guess but maybe it will be better.

Personally I dislike FB video's as their upload is much slower and low-quality than youtube. Jumping to youtube I'd guess on phone isn't a comfort, but the guitar community on your list would be likely ok with that so no worries.

I measured -7rms, thats a bit insane but also found 0.5 intersample peaks on my downloaded file. The average RMS is personal choice but keep in mind (tell Ben too for future releases) to leave more headroom (-1db is considered safe) for web. Its a lack of headroom that causes extra clipping, each site has its own algo but to be future proof more headroom the better.

Also congrats on the collab.

I uploaded to my FAN PAGE and my PERSONAL PAGE. Same result Facebook is just CRAP imho. They don't want to spare any bandwidth since most people are viewing videos on their phone. So they figure they can just squash it and turn it mono, and cut the size down to one quarter and save on bandwidth. Uggh. They figure everyone is on a cell phone so they can get away with crushing audio /video quality.

I made sure to share the Video Link to the full youtube version in both posts so that folks can go check it out in better form.

We did push the volume a bit. Youtube handled it fine, but yeah facebook really crushed the audio. Next time, I"ll have to do a separate version just for facebook that is mixed in mono and has more head room so that I'll know what it is going to sound like.

Until this collab I had not paid that close of attention to what they were doing with audio/video. Now that I am paying attention it's horrible!! Good to know though so I can be aware for next time. Thanks for checking it out and for the info on what they are doing to vids!!

To me it seems the high end is what gets sacrificed the most in FB's compression - and since this mix is really/bright-in-your face, I can imagine quite a difference when comparing to the uncompressed version.

I didn't realize just how much facebook was messing with audio/video that was uploaded. On a phone, it's usually fine, but listening on real speakers, you hear how badly they squash everything and they make it mono!!!

I've learned my lesson. It's an entirely different mix for FACEBOOK, mono and low volume. The youtube version sounds much closer to the original. Live and learn!!

I think I found the culprit! Evidently, if you upload via mobile device, your video/audio gets crushed to mono!! So only upload from a laptop/desktop!

– A video in stereo sound uploaded to Facebook via desktop will remain in stereo.
– A video in stereo sound uploaded to Facebook via Facebook mobile app (iOS OR Android) will result in a video in mono sound.

– A video in stereo sound uploaded to the Instagram app via iOS is converted to mono.

– A video in stereo sound uploaded to the Instagram app via ANDROID stays in stereo.






It sure crushed mine down to mono for some reason? I have no idea why. It sounded pretty terrible as well. Im not sure if it's a new thing or what.
Instagram forces mono as well. Both assume folks are using a cell phone for playback as most folks do just that

I don't think my FB uploads end up in mono though.
