That depends on a person! Some are satisfied with only power chords! but if you are a shredder type of guitar player than you'll never be satisfied with how you play because you'll always want to get better!
i know i am not satisfied with my playing....some say i am crazy....but i just want to get better and better -------------------- "It isn't how many years you have been playing, it's how many hours." -- Prashant Aswani "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!" -- Michael Angelo Batio Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |

ibut i did go a bit instrument mad, after buying 5 guitars, a piano, a keyboard, steel pan,3amps and a banjo (dont ask..it was cheap) im still not satisfeid.. Wow, that is a little mad (especially the piano!) - but then I bought 5 gitars in the last year so who am I to criticize Here is my view. There are 2 stages for everyone. 1. I'm a beginner 2. I'm intermnediate No-one wants to say they are good or advanced, even Pavel regards himself as intermediate So Intermediate covers everything from not a beginner to RustyCooley/Steve Vai/Insert your guitar hero here. Apart from revealing the fact that its hard to be objective about your own skill level, I think this proves that the huge majority of guitarists are always looking to take the next step. As soon as you decide you are good enough, you might as well put the guitar away forever because you won't improve, and you will probably lose ground. I think "I am good enough" is another way of saying "I'm not interested anymore". So what do I think my level is? Intermediate ... (but a lower Intermediate than Pavel ) -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

As with fkalich - breaking it in to two parts:
Instruments and gear - I don't need any more guitars/amps etc but weak willed person that I am it doesn't stop me wanting some . Playing - the one thing I've come to learn in life is how little I know and how much more there is to learn. A bit akin to shining a torch in the dark I suppose - you can either concentrate on and be happy with all that is revealed in the small corona of light or want to know what still remains in the dark as well. I go for the latter even if it's never ending. As Blanchot once put it, I paraphrase a bit, it's the possibility of the impossible rather than the impossibility of the possible that intrigues me most.
