I can buy them for 5 bucks a set and have even found them at Walmart before. My shector had terrible strings on it when I tried it out in the store and it played like a dream then. Sep 14 2007, 11:00 PM	GMC:er Posts: 667 Joined: 6-July 07 From: Atlanta, GA, USA	I typically use D'Addario XLs 10s but recently I've been exploring other strings, Got some EB Slinkys (10s) and they sound about as good and don't seem to have that "break in" period the XL's do. Plus they just feel better. I might try the hybrid slinky, I've heard good things. DRs were trash when i used them, I used them on my string thru schecter and half the coating on strings 1-3 came off feeding it thru the body and teh rest of the coating on 1-3 came off after about an hour of playing. I changed out the strings almost immediately. The elixirs played great on my guitar, BUT they sounded horrible when I plugged in. The Elixir continues to be the only acoustic string I'll buy, but it messes up my sound too much for my electric. You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. My guitar sounded great when I bought it so after I figured out what they used I put some in and they sound better than the Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys I had on. The last strings I used were Elixir .09 and they lasted me a LONG time and only at the end did they start getting dirty. Definitely worth the extra money if you ask me. After Elixir.. I guess Ernie Ball would be my 2nd choice. They last a little longer than the Fenders that are on my guitar right now. I used to have 11s on it and it wasn't quite as bad. Non muted passages on the low strings sound way too sloppy since the strings are all over the place. When I want to get more colorful sound, I use Augustine Red Regal. Regular Augustine strings tend to be out of tune, but Regal ones are nice. I changed a while back from the 9's that came with my Fender to 10's. There was such a dramatic change in tone from the guitar that I could not imagine ever putting 9's back on. It was like. 'Oh. Thats what the guitar is supposed to sound like'. I notice that most everyone here is using 9's and I figure its because of the style of play but don't you feel that you are losing a great deal of the tone your guitar can actually put out by using 9's?
