I was watching that anqutie show, where people bring in there old junk, and they tell them how much its worth.

This one lady brought in like a 1954 telecaster, or something close to that year.

It was an alright looking tele, but I still woudlnt buy it.

Can you guess how much it went for?

haha 30 thousand some dollars.

Yeah me to. But wow, it was 30 thousand. Seriously, who would pay for something like that? Collectors maybe? Thats a bit expensive for an old guitar that was in that great of shape IMO.

Is that what someone else would pay for it or what it's estimated value was?

Maybe they just throw out overly high numbers to keep people interested.

I saw an article some time ago where they stated that guitar prices off quality vintage instruments had outperformed house and stock market price rises over a 30-40 year period. I've been trying to convince the wife that we should sell the house and put the proceeds in to buying me lots of vintage guitars wink.gif .

Cheers,
Tony

That guitar was just that high because Hendrix played it!

Thirty thousand for a guitar that no one famous ever played is a ridiculous sum of money compared to 450,000!

Yeah,money is that is.

Lucky us,these people don't buy the instrument,
they buy an item just to show it to somebody.
And missing lots of joy imo. wink.gif

That doesnt suprise me at all.Fender just really started making electric's in the mid 40's and im sure that telecaster was all original and probably close to you of the first years that started making them.A 1941 Martin D-28 i had i sold for $5000.00 and later found out it was worth $25,000.00 sad.gif mad.gif .

Also a original late 50's Gibson Les Paul could go for almost $300,000.00 and most of the 60's models can grab $150,000.00 easy.Thats not even talking about the 60's stratocaster's there similar but a little less expensive.Really its how bad a wealthy person wants these guitars that you just really cant find anymore.Think about it,if you were completly rich had all these other models you collected and were missing one to add to the collection you would pay a insane amount for the guitar.I know i would.

Only thing that bums me out is i dont see half as many guitars now-a -days picking up value as well as these did.Really anything for that matter like comic books especially sports cards. It seems collecting stuff for the future now will not end up paying off like the stuff from the early 1900's has sad.gif Thats just my opinion though wink.gif

Really what will make it sell for high or low depends on how many were made and how rare the item is.Thats really what drives all things into insane prices is its amount of production and quality of the company that made it.

What saddens me Dan are the collectors who buy and so push prices up but who never play the guitars they buy - all they are are an investment. All that does is push the prices up beyond the reach of mere mortals like most (all smile.gif ) of us here on GMC who would actually love, cherish and play the thing.

Cheers,
Tony

I think the most expensive guitar ever was a Fender Strat signed by over 50 Rock Stars (Brian May,Mick Jagger...) and it was sold for 2.23 million dollars for a charity project in Asia
