Hi Symon. smile.gif
Good question and I'll try to help if I can wink.gif.

Most common "shapes" for sweeping are actually chords played "note by note",
it's called arpeggio as you've probably already knew.
So simple just grad any chord you like and try to sweep it,and you have one shape. smile.gif
Easiest types of arpeggios to sweep are surely basic major and minor chord,
tho you can sweep chords like 7,M7, diminished,augmented etc.
So if you've already browsed through all sweep lessons on GMC,
than you've probably seen all common and often shape.
As I said,grab any chord you like and sweep,another shape. smile.gif

Hope this helps a bit. wink.gif

Cool, I never knew this, I'd just started working on sweeping, I'm getting better at it but its still a bit sloppy for me, but knowing it works with any chord shape helps a bunch!

Cheers Muris smile.gif

muris thank you for your reply and for making sense of my question smile.gif and knowing that it has helped someone else it no longer seems a silly thing to have asked rolleyes.gif
also i was just wondering as i have ordered your albumn were you thinking of tabing any of your songs or perhaps doing a series of lessons on here relating to any of them (maybe bite size pieces that fit together and make one complete song ?) smile.gif
warm regards symon

a good way to pratice sweeps is to build up the chords for yourself.
for example you want to sweep an A minor chord:
you take the root note A then the minor 3d© and then the 5th(e) and from there you go to the 8(which is the octave of A or the 4th of the e ).
so you always build root. minor 3rd, 5th, 8th ( root). ! and there you go.
once you have nailed those four notes down you start with the 3rd again!
this will help you to learn your fretboard and also some theory related stuff- go build some chords!!

cheers

hi Muris maybe you answer this question thousand time so sorry
and is not to easy find some answer like before with new shifting of reply

my question is about the sweep picking
when you play the the first chord on window 1

A

E||-----9-12p-9----9-12p-9----9-12p-9----9-12p-9-|
B||--10---------10---------10---------10---------|
G||----------------------------------------------|
D||----------------------------------------------|
A||----------------------------------------------|
E||----------------------------------------------|

like downstroke,downstroke-upstroke-pul of and again downstroke

or we play after the pul of upstroke?? and folow with downstroke??

thanks

It's simple way of sweeping,formula would be this:
down,down,up and pull-off,and you have 4 notes to play.
Notice that you have sweep motion only at the beginning,connecting 2 downstrokes.

Try further in the lesson and you'll have more complex patterns. smile.gif

don't forget, that like scales, Arpeggios can be played multitudes of ways, i.e - along one string, 2 strings, 3 strings, etc...
um....you could follow the CAGED system, and (I think this is very cool when you get it right), sweep the C shape on the low 2 strings (EA) and then the A shape on the next 2 (DG) and then the G shape on strings (BE)....you cross over three shapes, and it's a cool sound...
I'll try and write up a diagram shortly
