I agree here. No one said that if you doesn´t have a week vibrato you got a great vibrato. I´m bold enough to suggest there is something like an "descent vibrato", "ok vibrato", "not totally awful" or perhaps when you start becoming a descent guitar player, "good vibrato" As a total beginner you suck at everything. But I think what the list is trying to say is that vibrato is something a begginer often neglect, do not practise (on purpose that is) so he doesn´t really advance from that very beginner state. Since there is probably different levels of beginners Not saying it is true that beginners have weak vibrato. I have not listened to a beginner in over 5 years. So, i think he is right. UNfortunately many guitarists do neglect it instead of developing it. Just improvizing, and using vibrato to give it a bit of dramatic effect is always something fun. I usually try to play something along the lines of one of Marcus's Vibrato lessons. You hardly ever see a pro doing that. And the list says that beginners only concentrate on one style. Well yea if you fingerpick all the time you aren't gonna get past classical music and maybe some bluegrass or something. Metal, progressive rock, blues, etc, are all out of the question. Anyway, the ones that apply to me most are relying too much on tabs and sheet music to learn songs, although I do think that learning to sight-read is EXTREMELY and equally important as ear training and don't understand why they are putting it down. I like to learn stuff from classical composers like Mozart, Bach, etc. What do they expect me to do to learn their stuff when there is no recordings? My only option is sheet music. The ones that don't apply to me, and make me proud of, are the ones that have to do with buying too much gear and concentrating more on gear than on actual skill, and the ones that involve vibrato, phrasing, and music theory. Everyone I know neglects all of the above but I made sure to not make the same mistake. EDIT: And oh yea, two I think they left off are. Thinking guitars are made to be 100% downpicked, for example I wasn't even introduced to economy picking until about 8 months in, which was a bad habit, which I had to spend even more time on fixing into 100% alternate. And another is thinking that everything will be free. Like some people don't want to get lessons, don't want to use programs like GMC, don't want to buy books, just want to spend money on gear and think that free (often-low quality) lessons are gonna cut it.
